Source: ‘Pervasive’ Wagering From Colts Player Includes Bets On His Own Team
Of hundreds of bets placed by Colts player, a considerable amount were made inside team facility, source says

Amid the NFL’s ongoing investigation of a wave of potential violations of its sports betting policy, Sports Handle has learned that a player for the Indianapolis Colts is under investigation for what a source called “pervasive” wagering activities.

While the new allegations around the Colts appear to be “isolated to one player,” there is evidence the Colts player placed hundreds of wagers, the source told Sports Handle on the condition of anonymity. At least some of the wagers, the source told Sports Handle on Sunday, were placed on the Colts.

This information comes not long after the NFL suspended five players in April for sports gambling violations. Of the five, four violated league policy by placing wagers last season as members of the Detroit Lions. Over Memorial Day weekend, The Athletic reported that the league is investigating another player on the Lions’ 2022 roster for a possible gambling violation.

The Colts player appears to have made the wagers through an account opened by an acquaintance, the source noted. Sports Handle has not been able to independently verify if the player placed any wagers on his team during the 2022 NFL season.

Although the player is not considered a superstar, an ardent NFL fan has probably heard of him, according to the source. Most of the wagering occurred during 2022, with some of it extending into 2023. The player is still on the Colts’ roster, the source revealed.

Indiana Gaming Commission Deputy Director Jenny Reske told Sports Handle Monday that the IGC is looking into the potential violations by the Colts player.

“I can confirm that we have received information pertaining to this matter and we are following developments,” Reske said. “The IGC is not the lead agency because it involves violations of league policy. We will, however, continue to review information as it emerges to see if it requires any regulatory action.”

That player's a goner.

Gambling at all is kind of a dumb thing for these guys, but gambling on your own team? How do you not know that that's a death penalty offense?

This made me laugh. An ardent NFL fan has pretty much heard of everyone in the league.

Gambling is intertwined with everything in the NFL. It's bullshit these guys can't participate. Just ban them from betting on the NFL and allow every other sport.

Someone said it in another thread but just make it so all bets have to be logged with the league office and they aren’t allowed to bet on the games they play in.

Yea it's not gonna happen, they're gonna crack down harder on gambling than anything from DV, DUI Rape just go on and on gambling is gonna get the harshest punishments.

The NFL is going to view this as a big enough gambling issue could threaten the entire existence of the league. If a substantial enough gambling scandal were to occur, the competitive history of the league would be nigh irreparably tarnished. None of us are old enough to remember the Black Sox, but we are old enough to read about it, and that scandal very nearly resulted in the death of Major League Baseball. It's difficult to understate the impact of fans not even being sure whether there is any integrity to the end result of games, especially the biggest games of the season.

They will continue to crack down on this with the complete iron fist because they view it as protecting the integrity of their league.

I just don't think you can let them gamble on football. These guys are all too damn close. They share agents, on field and off.

It's just playing with fire and to what benefit? Sorry guys - for the few years you're in the league, you don't get to gamble on sports. That's a condition of working here.

That's reasonable. It shouldn't be an issue for any of these guys. They have to understand that the game depends on the fans believing that teams and players are playing it straight up.

Seems like the other leagues have it right and the NFL is doing it wrong.

Quote:
In the preamble of its 2018 gambling policy the NFL states, “Gambling, particularly on NFL games or other sports, presents potential risks to the integrity of our competition and can negatively impact team cohesion.”

But that same policy goes on to outline that, “All NFL Personnel other than Players are further prohibited from placing, soliciting, or facilitating bets on any other professional (e.g., NBA, MLB, NHL, PGA, USTA, MLS), college (e.g., NCAA basketball), international (e.g., World Baseball Classic, World Cup), or Olympic sports competition, tournament or event.”

NFL players and personnel are not allowed to engage in gambling in NFL facilities, disclose any nonpublic NFL information, enter a sportsbook during the NFL season, or maintain any social, business or personal relationships with sports gamblers.

But they can place non-sports wagers at legally operated casinos and horse or dog racing tracks on their personal time, including during the season.

The NBA constitution doesn’t expressly forbid players from betting on other sports.

According to Major League Baseball’s 2019 policy on sports betting, “Baseball personnel may place legal bets on sports other than baseball or softball in jurisdictions in which sports betting is legal, provided that the person placing the bet is eligible under applicable law to place the wager.”

The NHL only prohibits players from gambling on league games.

They wouldn’t be able to make shit anyway, relatively speaking. DraftKings will limit your account at around $25k profit

Buckner is one of the best DTs in the game and the guy said it's not a star so it's hard for me to think it's him or Leonard.

If you think in terms of "star" that regular people would know there are exactly two stars in the NFL at DT and even then it's a stretch.

Maybe it's Jacoby Brisset
