OT - Hard Country rock music groups

I am not a big fan of current country music but my brother got me hooked on a band called Black Stone Cherry which walks the line between hard rock and Country. We saw them live a couple months back and they were amazing. I like their harder edge stuff over the country songs they have. I guess they are the sons of some of the members of the Kentucky HeadHunters but I don't remember them being anything like Black Stone Cherry.

Anywho I was looking for other Hard Country Rock bands in the same vein, I am not into the Country Rap stuff, just the full on hard rock that you don't hear from Rock radio anymore.

If you have acts to recommend let me know.

I have some Whiskey Meyers on order.

I like Chris Stapleton but he is on the line, I loved Jamey Johnson's the Guitar Song album but want harder rockers like this:

I am loving Black Stone Cherry, they are finishing up a tour supporting their new album. I have the entire catalog and wanted to find more acts like them.

I tried Cadillac 3 but it was too country and not enough rock for me.

Hoping someone else has some good leads. I love a good live act as well.

Nor have I - but that doesn't surprise me. "Country" hasn't been "Country" for the last 30 years.

Me? Give me Bluegrass any day of the week over this overproduced, commercial crap that is played on the radio today.

Is still a lot of good country music out there on private label and playing in small venues. Your just not going to hear them on country music radio because Nashville abandoned them for Pop Country.

I went to HS with the Banjo player for a jam blue grass band out of Chicago called Cornmeal. He is a good guy and turned into a great player. He was in thrash bands before he picked up the banjo.

Anyone who listens to Bluegrass understands that the "pickers" literally ROCK their guitar, mandolin, banjo or bass. I have heard 80 year old guitar pickers play runs that most rock guitar "masters" would be proud of.

All brought to the hills of North Carolina, Kentucky and Tennessee by the Scots.

We've played some festivals with Cornmeal, fun band. If you're from Chicago, maybe you've seen Steepwater Band? Fantastic group, great guys. Jeff Massey came down and played guitar on some tracks for our new album.

My best friend from the old neighborhood used to be married to Paul Jackson's cousin, so I've been seeing Blackberry Smoke since they were playing to 50 people at Knuckleheads. We've played some shows with them too, and I even got them on archive.org :

https://archive.org/details/Blackberry_Smoke

Most of the KC/Como/StL area shows were taped by me; Sept 2014 in Lawrence and CoMo especially hot, along with StL 2015.

I can only offer text at the moment but:

Have you checked out Blackberry Smoke? That is what I think of as country rock.

Probably too far out but I dig The Magpie Salute. They really seem to draw from early 70s rock like Faces, Rod Stewart, Allman Brothers.

JD McPherson is worth checking out but he is more rock and roll, rockabilly.

Hopefully those suggestions will add something to your journey. I love finding new music.

Thanks!

These types of leads is what I was hoping to get with this thread!

I love the Faces, et all.

I saw a group on ACL called Shiny Ribs who I liked and am trying to get some of their stuff, they aren't hard country rock though, more like Austin Tx country soul but I love finding fun new groups that I can see live in a dive up close.

Wish you the best on your journey as well.
