Chiefs Offseason Planet Evaluation: Orson Charles
He used to go by the name Jamaal, but then gained weight and moved to tight end. At least, I think that's what happened.
Orson played in 5 games this year, with no starts. He had 2 catches, averaging 26.5 yards per catch, with no scores or fumbles. He made 1 fumble recovery. |

Again not enough PT to discuss. Seems he had a nice catch and a bad drop - I'd give him a little more time to see for certain. He was quite the head case with lots of issues at UGA.

Wasn't it his dumbass that dropped the ball on 3rd down in the playoffs? If so, F because that was the difference between a playoff loss and a playoff win. To be fair the 2017 Chiefs were doomed in other Chiefly anyways regardless but still, straight through the hands on a crucial 3rd down in a home playoff game? Come on man.

I didn't even know who he was until he got the ball in a critical situation in the playoffs (that's what you do with a guy who has 3 receptions in three years, because chiefs) and bollixed it up.

He was the #1 ranked TE by the majority of scouts heading into his draft year. Physically he has the tools to be an effective player, but a history of struggling with the mental part of the game and a checkered past at UGA only gives him so much rope to stick in the league.
Hopefully he can turn it around. Keeping him around for cheap cannot hurt. |

Orson didn't take the team by storm, but we see potential for improvement.
1.29 Grade (4.0 point scale) -0.43 Performance Relative to Expectations (+ = Positive Surprise, - = Negative Surprise) -1.31 Desired Future Role (+ is larger role, - is smaller role) 0.08 Ascending/Descending (+ is ascending, - is descending) 7.00 Trade Value (Round, also, zero = 2 1st rounders, negative = wouldn't trade)
