About Justin Houston..
Does anyone else think he has been playing pretty lazily early in games this year? Perhaps it has been a scheme thing, perhaps today he was still feeling some illness.. but I typically watch him on 75+% of the snaps and its like he is waiting until the 4th quarter to 'flip the switch'. He shuts down the run for 4 quarters, I am referring only to his pass rush.
He either gets dropped into coverage, or he will rush and give up on it if he doesn't win immediately. Then, the 4th quarter hits and we see the dominant, relentless Justin Houston that he used to be on every down. Hopefully its just some sort of schematic thing going on. I'm glad he is still having a huge impact nonetheless with 4 sacks thus far, but I can't help but wonder if he is holding back effort. Lets hope that changes because the defense is damn good when he is rolling... |

He hasn't been rushing a lot.
Not lazy - he's doing what's asked of him...

Houston is still very good vs the run. The dropping could be because of lack of depth at ILB too trying to run some Zone Blitz's under the Man coverage on the outsides. Missing Berry and Johnson doesn't look like he has his top end speed though he is still playing well. I also see him standing at the LOS on more plays than in the past, looks like he is trying to discourage screens and play run 1st rather than push it upfield and leave space behind him. Sound D by your DC. |

We have to get it our of our head that more rushers means more pressure. Pressure means nothing if the other qb consistently finds open targets pre snap. |

I've been a huge Houston fan for years. He's been my favorite player on the defense since 2012. I've watched him primarily ever since then. He certainly seems to give up quicker than he used to on his pass rush. Teams also do chip him more than they used to, I will say that. |

Houston is a team leader and it's still early in the season. I'm not worried about him as long as his knees hold up.

His run defense has been outstanding. Dee Ford's invisibility is concerning. Chiefs need to let Tamba out of jail soon, because a semi-warm body would be better than anything at ROLB about now.... Zombo will not cut it.

Not a chance. I think he's just been played well by the opponents for the most part -- only, after a long game, his conditioning trumps theirs.

Yeah it seems they aren't really letting him tee off on the passer until late in the games. And so far it's working.

What I could glean from the game thread was everyone was pissed at him on the bench wearing an oxygen mask, and not doing much when he was on the field
But he was there, he played, and got a crucial sack while worn down by what looks to be a genuine illness The sack was a beaut, too... smashed Rivers right into the ground |

Reid and Sutton cut it loose in the fourth now. Unlike last year where we came out shooting then went conservative to crap ourselves like with Tennessee and the bucs
