Virus infected my daughters laptop
This is an LOL moment. 6 mos ago I asked her if her laptop was protected. "of course Dad, it comes that way."
I told her to have avast, cccleaner, and malwarebytes. Run them 2x/month. Now she is in Barcelona, studying aboard and the laptop blows up...virus. "Can you fix this Dad" via whatsapp (a new app that I didn't know existed). I am not that smart on this stuff. So I enlist the gurus of CP to fix. "before I have to throw it away". Stats: when ever she gets on to the internet and click on anything, a new tab with the virus pops up and can't proceed. Keep in mind, she is in Barcelona, and have no clue what provider she is using. She did not have any probs while in the US. She said she ran the scans for the avast/ccleaner/malware bytes several times. She has tried Windows defender, anti malware, Mcafee and nothing works. I am guessing it is the new provider in Spain that has messed things up. thoughts?? I bragged how good the CP is and I have personally used you guys a bunch. Thanks |

Internet access is internet access. I don't think it's the provider.

Dig up the antivirus thread and download the toolkit linked in it, put it on Dropbox for her, she'll need to put out on a flash drive

it is usable after about a dozen times closing the tabs the open and works for another minute or so until another click on the Internet triggers the same process. it doesn't freeze, but my computer overall has run slower than before the virus. the most common tab that pops up says repair/reimage something and another one that I remember says tradeexchange. as far as I've seen they're actual websites but I have not viewed them in detail because I don't want to keep them open longer than I have to. Google chrome as well as Firefox. OP system: Windows 10
she last said, after the porn comment, was watching a free movie watching website and as soon as she saw the ad, exited and deleted all history. I also said my son is screwed (porn site comment) |

Boot in safe mode. Run malwarebytes. restart. come back with results

I found the solution. She needs to become a planeteer and look for her self
She is going to bed, late her time. Said she has about given up. Kids, what its $500 bucks? |

What does the popup say?
it might just be an in a specific browser as well, have her try another browser If she uses Chrome then try IE(comes on computer with windows) It can be done, just hard to do long distance antivirus etc are more effective when run in safe mode

consider pc recovery to the last time it worked.. while in safe mode.. internet access often aids the malware. consider trojan killer..

I sometimes go to the far corners of the internet. Somehow something gets by me. Yeah just don't take any chances if the initial remedy's don't work. Just revert to a a checkpoint. Should be fairly recent one past when she noticed issues. No tech involved, just select recover/revert and then pick the date. Let it do its thing.
