Report: Chris Berman to retire from ESPN after 2016 NFL season

http://thebiglead.com/2016/05/26/chr...ng-espn-after/

Quote:
Chris Berman is Retiring From ESPN After the 2016 Football Season

By: Jason McIntyre

Chris Berman, the longtime ESPN sportscaster who has been with the company since 1979, is leaving the network after next football season, multiple sources tell The Big Lead. Berman is in the final year of his contract, which ends sometime after the 2016-2017 football season. He is expected to retire, rather than leave for another network.

ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz declined comment this week.

Berman, 61, joined the network a month after its inception in 1979 and in addition to being one of the company’s longest-tenured employees, he’d certainly go on ESPN’s Mount Rushmore. As such, the network has lavish plans for a send-off that one source said might be akin to the way the Lakers sent Kobe Bryant into retirement. ESPN is currently preparing “summer camp” for its NFL TV team – which will feature new faces like Matt Hasselbeck, Randy Moss and Charles Woodson – and plans are being hatched for Berman’s send-off.

Who will replace Berman on the network’s popular “Monday Night Countdown” and “Sunday NFL Countdown” shows? Many have written that longtime NFL Live host Trey Wingo is a natural fit to replace Berman, but there is a strong internal push for Suzy Kolber to take over Berman’s chair.

No decision is expected anytime soon.

This for sure....

ESPN has turned into a mess of epic proportions. They've diluted themselves with too many ESPN channels, women sportscasters, political bullshit, horrible reporters and pretty much have only a few good shows.
  • 30 for 30 is great.
  • I like Wilbon and Kornheiser.
  • Some college football isn't bad.

Aside from that not sure what else I watch. Even getting basic scores at the bottom anymore take an hour to get to the score you like with all the other bullshit they send across the screen.

Funny thing, in the morning financial channel CNBC just scrolls scores like a true ticker. Much better. Fantasy sports ruined the ticker with all the stats they toss across after each game score.

Agreed. I just use my phone to get scores. Back in the day I used cnn who went through the scores much quicker than ESPN. Do I really care to see what 5 players from each team did or who had The game Winning rbi in the 6th ****ing inning?

With all of the recent changes, I may be able to stomach ESPN for the first time in more than a decade.

No kidding. Their pregame shit was awful. I'm glad they cleaned house. I used to not mind him but I've grown tired of him. Glad he's finally retiring and bring in new blood next year.

Yeah, I'm in the same camp. I don't watch it much, but Berman seemed fine to me. There are a whole lot worse, and I'm lookin' at you, Murderin' Ray Lewis.

Please don't stab me for saying that.

The problem with Berman is that his schtick get old and tiresome.

After a while you just want to choke him.

I could see that. Perhaps my practice of rarely watching ESPN keeps the schtick from aging.

Well, ESPN realized that and already fired/non-renewed Ray Lewis.
