I question about powerball
If the odds are 1 in 292,000,000 to win, does that mean there are 292,000,000 different number combinations ? If so, I'm thinking about getting a loan. Just a short term loan.

Duplicate tickets wouldn't affect the odds of winning, just the odds of how many can win. There are only so many combinations that can occur. That would be the 1 in x chance to win.

It does... if you were drawing numbers between 1 and 10 and drew ten 5s, you would have a 10% chance of winning, as opposed to drawing every number and having a 100% chance of winning.

Probably not all that significant with almost 300 million combinations though... 10 million duplicates would still get you almost 97% of all combinations. The bigger problem is that if it's true 75% of all combinations were played Saturday, I'd think it would be close to 100% if not over, so you're nearly guaranteed to share it with at least one other person.

I always enjoy reading things, from a probability standpoint, that you are more likely to do/happen to you besides winning the lottery.


shit like (not sure if true), you're more likly to get struck by lightning 4 times in the same day than win the powerball.

you're more likely to to see parking fees at Arrowhead reduced, than you are winning the lottery.

People at my work are going nuts over this shit. everyday a new 'pool' is started. they look at me like I'm crazy when I say 'no thanks'. ****, my luck is so shitty, a coin flip is bad odds for me.
