Who is the dumbest athlete you've ever heard?

I just got done listening to LeBetard do a segment with Devonta Freeman, and I'm left wondering if he could put two Legos together. He might not be the absolute dumbest, but he is in the Vince Young tier of dumbassery.

Who is in your Hall of Morons?

I remember back when I listened to Jim Rome in 99 and 2000, they would always talk about Dexter Manley not knowing how to read.

Does anybody remember an interview on one of the local radio stations a few years ago with Samie Parker? The entire interview lasted a couple of minutes. The radio host played it a couple of times and asked callers to guess how many times Samie said "you know what I'm sayin".

I counted 35. In a two-minute interview.

I don't know if that makes him a dumb athlete or not, but he certainly didn't sound like a genius that day.

Yeah, Manley was pretty famous for that. While I don't think he'll ever be in the running for a MacArthur Grant, I wonder to what extent his illiteracy was a lack of intellect versus a lack of proper education. Apparently he went back as an adult and learned to read, and I suspect that learning to read makes you a whole lot smarter in the long run.

Neil Smith is a good candidate for this, but at the same time I don't think he even had the lowest Wonderlic of his first-round class. If I remember right he got a 4 and Bennie Blades got a 3, or some such thing. But again, is that intelligence or is that a complete lack of literacy? It's tough to disentangle the two, but the bad vocabularies of people like Neil Smith and Emmitt Smith and Shannon Sharpe could be less related to intelligence than to education and what they heard growing up.

Johnny Football seems like a good candidate, too. I don't know what his diction is like, and his apparent stupidity could have a different genesis in addiction, but his bad decisions don't all seem to be related to addiction.

Tough call.

The dumbass Rams player who claimed the reason he lived and DT died that day was that he prayed harder.

The second one is funny. The first one is just kind of sad.

In both, though, he comes off as a pretty sweet, likeable guy... though he kind of looks like an Eddie Murphy character who is intentionally being a dumbass.
