Very surprising. He was an effective Red Zone target and unless there's some sort of undisclosed legal trouble, he could be a nice player opposite Kelce.
I find it strange that he wasn't traded. |

His TDs last year were largely a product of being way down on the totem pole for opposing defenses. The Bucs were going to cut him after a 54 catch season. The Patriots, desperate for TE help, only got 26 catches out of him, barely used him in the playoffs, made multiple moves to bring in other TEs in the offseason, and cut him before training camp. Maybe he can fill a role for some team, but he's not a good player. |

This dudes gotta have some underlying problem that's very serious for 2 teams to release him after productive years.

Only reason he left the Bucs is because he was traded for Logan Mankins. Some team will snatch him off waivers, but he may not be a complete TE, just a situational pass catcher.

He's probably better that Demetrius Harris and his broken foot.

DEFINITELY worth a look! Potentially nice fit if he is healthy

I thought AJ Derby was of the Pats best draft picks. He only played one year and didn't play much, but when he did he looked good.
Very good athletic measurabls as well. They must have big plans for this kid.

Wonder if the Bucs will put in a claim for him again.

Patriots are fairly deep at TE, and must not have liked what they saw from Wright so far in the offseason. They say you can't really lose your job at OTAs, because it's more teaching/install, but if a kid isn't really committed to the offseason workout program and getting his head deep into the playbook, then he is going to be gone.
