Cromartie has experience in our scheme, and is one of the best press man corners in the league, and unlike smith, he has the speed to match up with any wr in the NFL. I like having Gaines, and Peters developing, playing nickle. and i plan on letting smith walk the following season. I think having a proper press man corner like cromartie would take our defense to the next level, if we could bring blitzes like Arizona could, it could be a very scary thing. Spikes and DJ make one hell of an ILB duo, probably the best in the nfl aside from Bowman, Willis. Spikes is our guy for the future, DJ will walk in 2016. Hopefully plummer comes far enough along to adequately fill his role. On offense, there are still some ? at WR. there will be quite a bit of pressure on DGB to perform day one. I'm very confident he will be one of the nfl's scariest deep threats the day he sets foot on the field, though that isnt smiths strong suit obviously. Shorts, and Nicks are both gambles. both guys 800+ in 2013, both guys nothing this year. If they both return to original form (im confident shorts will) we will be more than fine, if not... As for Mannion, i see him as a possible QBOTF. he has a great touch on his ball, and throws a very nice deep ball. Hopefully he and DGB will terrorize opponents for many years to come. He has some things to work on, but he has time behind Smith. |

Hes perfect for us IMO. he brings an element of nastiness, no one else on our defense has. He's a tremendous downhill player who wont take himself out of plays, and he can consistantly stack and shed lineman and make tackles. if we're hell bent on playing nickle and dime as much as we do, we really need a guy like spikes to stop the run. i'd much rather give up a little speed, and coverage from that spot, than to not be able to stop the run in nickle and dime.
from 2013 "ProFootballFocus.com has Spikes graded as its sixth-best middle/inside linebacker this season, and the best at his position when it comes to stopping the run: His grade for the season of plus-13.2 against the run is nearly six points better than the Panthers’ Luke Kuechly, whose plus-7.5 ranks second." |

Would rather flip a 4th Rounder to the 9ers for Willis if they'd take it than spikes
