So are any of you guys into the old school stereo receivers?
Most of these bad boys from the list below, are from the late 70's and early 80's and they haven't made anything that sounds the same since.
The raw clean power just isn't in todays products. I'm going to hunt something down for the man cave out in the shop to abuse the neighbors a bit. If you have some old school stuff, what is it, Yamaha, Sansui, Murantz or something else? Monster Receiver Super List 25 years old or older with 100+ wpc

I've never quite understood what a receiver does. I think it was the music industry's version of blinker fluid.

Cool thread Greg.
I had no idea my old stuff was appreciating. I still have my Kenwood tuner and receiver from 72. It is only 70 watts RMS per channel, but the distortion is almost non existent. It is coupled with a Mistubishi DPEC7 direct drive automatic turntable, strobe controlled digital vinyl machine. Recently, I gave away a Pioneer receiver that was 130 watts per channel RMS, had no idea it was worth anything. I had bought it at a garage sale, and put new output transistors in it. I don't think I have played an album in 5 or 6 years, this thread may just stimulate that action. Always wanted a Teac or Akai RR, but never got one. I think every other guy I knew in the Navy, had one though. |

hmmm...my brother brought home an Akai RR when he was in the navy also.
He must have brought that home about 1970 or 1971.

I swore by Technics products back in the day. I don't think I have any of that stuff now.

My brother had/has a Yamaha CR-840 (which is small compared to most on my list) and that thing will knock the paint off the wall, with booming clean sound. That thing is only rated at 60W per channel.

It has been a couple years, but I had it cranked on Led Zep where the whole neighborhood was enjoying it. |
