Painting ceilings. Need some help/advise
Remodeling the new home. Had popcorn ceilings throughout the house. We have had the popcorn ceilings taken out by professionals.
The pros put a thin layer of drywall mud on the ceiling. We have put two coats of primer on the ceiling. My wife wants to use latex high gloss enamel paint on the ceilings. We have done two coats. The problem is that we can see the rolling of the paint marks on the ceiling. Question for the Planet............. What do I need to use or do to not have the rolling marks? Surely two coats of primer and two coats of paint should get the job done? What say you? Rep with my big rep stick for helpful tips advise. On a side note this is my room to do with what I want. The doors lead to the backyard with a pool, jacuzzi, the waterfront of the ocean and the boat dock. The wife suggested astroturf on the floor with a football field painted on it. Paint it red put up my Chiefs "stuff". Seems "routine" to me. Any unique ideas would be appreciated and hit with my big rep stick. |

Those roller marks are why you are supposed to use flat paint on ceilings. Not any help really, but you'll be hard pressed to eliminate them completely.

Yeah, I know! Gotta keep momma happy. Still though, should of probably had the ceiling done knock down style and painted with flat white. The only thing that might work with the high gloss is using a sprayer or professional painter. JMHO.

I think ceilings look better sprayed out. If that is not an option try a thicker nap on your roller as a posible fix. Not sure why you would have roller marks with that many coats? It can be either- cheap paint or a cheap roller.
PM bugeater and see if he agrees- he might have some better suggestions- he knows his trade. |

Rent a sprayer and spray the ceilings. Your issue is the finish on the ceiling. You'll see everything. Using a fine finish sprayer would be good

Plus before you painted you should of used a high build self leveling primer to help conceal flaws in the ceiling

I've painted like 15 hotel rooms and I never had the roller marks. Just don't paint parallel to the last stroke like how you would mowing a lawn keeping parallel to the lines. Paint in an "X" formation and don't press hard.

How do you paint in an "X" and still cover the whole area?
