Doesn't Geno Smith have Kaepernick upside?
He doesn't have Kaepernick's size, but he's got his mobility, his arm, and his accuracy.
I don't know much about Geno's character because nobody seems to be able to get inside the West Virginia fortress, but am I the only one that sees a good amount of Kaepernick in this guy? |

I would say no simply because they are not the same type of QBs.

He doesn't have Kaepernick's mobility.

7 starts in the NFL and Kaepernick doubled Geno's best season in college in running yards.

Kaep has better mobility and a stronger arm. Geno is more accurate and, from what I have seen, smarter. Different QBs, imo.

Geno is more polished as a drop back than Kaep although Kaep can do it but he is having to learn it because as some of you said he is more natural at this point to being an option QB. Both QBs have strong arms with Kaep probably having a little more mustard on the ball. Kaep is 2 tenths faster in the 40 than Geno at 4.4 compared to Geno's 4.6 with both being very athletic and mobile with Kaep being more the natural runner. What makes Geno so F'N attractive to a lot of teams is that he is already a primed dropback QB with 4/5ths of the athleticism of Kaep when needed.

I was one of the very few guys who was really on Kaepernick coming out of Nevada and hoped that he was going to be there with the Chiefs second rounder. Alas, he didn't last that long and in reality, they probably should have taken him instead of Baldwin, though they were still firmly entrenched with Cassel and there was no way Peeholi was going to take a QB that high.
Anyway, I like Geno better at the same point than Kaepernick. His mechanics are better, he's got better accuracy, better pocket presence and is equal to Kaepernick in terms of athleticism and arm strength. Geno is more of a Rogers type of QB and while the NFL is trending towards the more mobile QB, the pass first/pocket QB is still a better option for the next level, especially one that has the athletic potential that Geno does while still having the mindset of being a pocket QB first and foremost. Which, ironically, fits in with the type of system Reid likes to run. I think the best comparison for a NFL QB for Geno is an Aaron Rogers type of guy. With his tools, I think that's his upside. |

Wear a hat. Yeah that was terrible and I'm not sorry.
He was saying playing style, not upside I think. I agree with it. I would say he has style more like Rodgers, where he is very athletic but likely to stay in the pocket. |

At some point d cos will force Kaepernick to throw and throw and throw week after week. The jury is still out IMO.
