2015 Pro Football Hall of Fame Finalists
I don't think we've discussed this yet, so here you go. Up to five of these guys (plus the one senior candidate) can go in. You make the vote when the poll goes up and I release white smoke from the chimney.
The semifinalist list is here if you want to see who got snubbed, which is mostly Albert Lewis, Everson Walls, Clay Matthews, Joe Jacoby, Torry Holt, Isaac Bruce, and Randall Cunningham: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showt...php?p=10938513 Edit: Two other finalists weren't in the poll because the profootballhof listed them separately. Bill Polian and Ron Wolf are also finalists if you want to vote for them as write-ins. Last edited by Rain Man; 01-15-2015 at 01:46 PM.. |

I didn't vote for Pace, because I think Warner will make it and they won't want to put in two Rams, or two offensive linemen, on the same class. I want the offensive lineman to be Will Shields. Coryell deserves it. He basically invented the west coast offense. Charles Haley has multiple rings with multiple teams. Tinglehoff was a long time lineman with the Vikings. Otis Taylor deserves that spot more.

Personally, I think this is one of the weakest finalist classes I've ever seen. Lots of candidates for the Hall of Pretty Good, so I think this is the year that they right a few wrongs.
Will Shields and Kevin Greene should go in easily. Kurt Warner is a first ballot guy. He's got no chance on the first ballot, but Morten Andersen should go in if the world is fair. I guess Orlando Pace would be my non-enthusiastic fifth choice. Those are the folks who SHOULD go in. The folks who WILL go in are: Will Shields Junior Seau Kurt Warner Orlando Pace Tim Brown

It just seems to me that most of the candidates have some sort of flaw that could be used against them. Whether it's Bettis with the low YPC or Harrison with the gun thing or Tim Brown with the low YPR or Haley and Seau with the mental issues (not their fault, but it's not a pr bonus) or Morten Andersen being a kicker, you can critique almost everyone. Even Shields, who is perfect, can be dinged for playing guard and not having rings.

Seau will go in because he offed himself.
If he's chosen, Coryell might have to wait, because he was also a San Diego guy. I think Pace deserves it, not so much on Kevin Greene. I can make a much better case for Haley. Warner is a first ballot for sure. Guy was an amazing story, and one of a kind in NFL history. |

Disagree on that being the reason. Seau was an absolute beast. His name jumped out at me as a no-doubter. I realize I'm biased having watched him blow up plays for so many years, but I had always just assumed he would be in the HOF.

I believe Rain Man has a rant against Seau in the HOF. I've seen it rustle the jimmies of a couple of Chargers fans here.

My dislike of Junior is relatively mild, and I figure he's going in. I'm not going to grouse too much. My complaint about him is that I don't remember him as a decisive playmaker and I think he had a big case of Sam Huff Syndrome. He would make a routine play and go dancing around like Elaine Benes at a Christmas party, so it was easy for the announcers to lock in on him and talk about him. I think a part of his fame is just the fact that he got a lot of publicity, which is exactly old-timers say happened with "The Violent World of Sam Huff". He's famous because he's famous.

And Jim Tyrer was kept out, most likely for the very same reason.

The worst is if Jerome Bettis gets in. The guy was the definition of average. He should get into the Hall of Average or the Hall of Longevity, but not the Hall of Fame. Ever.
Less than 4 yards per carry career average? Pathetic. Only 4 times in 13 years did he top 4 yards per carry in a single season. Average of 7 TDs per season over his career? Unimpressive. Average of 1,030 rush yards per season over his career? Average.
