Jamaal Anderson released by Cincinnati Bengals
Jamaal Anderson released by Cincinnati Bengals
By Chris Wesseling Around the League Writer Published: July 10, 2013 at 04:31 p.m. Updated: July 10, 2013 at 04:36 p.m. Defensive end Jamaal Anderson, the No. 8 overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, has been released, the Cincinnati Bengals announced Wednesday. A rotational defensive lineman specializing in stopping the run, Anderson played just two games last season before undergoing quadriceps surgery. The Bengals have plenty of depth up front after picking up Margus Hunt in the second round of this year's draft. It would have been hard to find snaps for both Hunt and Anderson, so the Bengals opted to save $2.5 million by cutting the latter. Anderson will now have a chance to catch on with another prior to training camp, though he'll have to settle for a lesser salary. Anderson played four years under former Falcons defensive coordinator Brian Van Gorder, who is now linebackers coach with the New York Jets. Drafted to be a difference-making pass rusher, Anderson managed just 4.5 sacks in 60 games with the Falcons before his 2011 release. He's a reminder of how far Atlanta's personnel department has come since Thomas Dimitroff took control in 2008. Follow Chris Wesseling on Twitter @ChrisWesseling. |

The guy was a freak in college. He was a Wide receiver in high school and grew into a DE. Didn't ever really amount to much in the NFL.

He actually may be a damn good fit as a 3-4 DE. He definitely doesn't have the speed to be a 4-3 DE.

He has the strength and frame to be a good 3-4 DE but but I don't see how anyone ever saw the first step of a 4-3 pass-rusher. I'd gladly take a chance on him if for no other reason than to push Jackson to wake the !@#$ up and try in what is almost certainly going to be a contract year for him.
