Mock (1/27/13)
I continue to really dislike almost all the QBs in this draft. The #1 overall pick should be made for a player who will be an integral part of your Super Bowl run -- unfortunately, not even Geno Smith looks to me like a guy who can will his team to victory. Sorry folks.
I do think some interesting talent can be had at the top of the 2nd, from Tyler Wilson to Matt Barkley to Mike Glennon, somebody will probably fall to our 2nd rounder. Until then, I continue to use the 1st overall for what it was designed for: courting the player who will be an integral part of our Super Bowl run. Some assumptions: 1. Quinn and Cassel walk, as does Dorsey. Hillis is gone. 2. The Chiefs resign Albert, Bowe, and Colquitt. Because this is my mock and why not. Jackson is restructured, spreading his $14 million over three seasons. 3. They have a pretty powerful offseason, bringing in QB Matt Moore as a temporary patch, RB Shonn Greene as a committee back, score a big deal with ILB Brad Jones due to the Dorsey connection, and they take care of a deep free agent safety market by inking one of the several big name safeties on the market in FS Louis Delmas, who they get for a deal. 4. They rake in an additional compensatory picks, a 3rd and a 7th. On we go. 1. DT Star Lotulelei, Utah Our passrush is absolutely dying to breakout, but it can't quite yet in part because our offense isn't doing shit. It's also hamstrung by the fact that we don't yet have a force inside that threatens the offense on every single play. This defense sorely needs a Vance Wilfork, or a J.J. Watt, just somebody inside who threatens the offense. Dontari Poe may yet be that guy, and running on Tyson Jackson is certainly difficult, but we need a pocket assaulter, and Lotulelei may fit the mold. Teaming him up along the inside with Poe and Jackson could finally allow Houston and Hali to put up Von Miller/Elvis Dumervil numbers. 2. QB Tyler Wilson, Arkansas I've liked Tyler Wilson from the get go. Under consistent coaching and great receivers, he was a Top 10 prospect. But his coaching imploded this offseason, and his receivers all went to the NFL. I believe that Wilson has franchise QB upside, while still being capable of turning off half the teams in the NFL as a prospect. I say, let him battle Moore for the starter position. If it doesn't work out, sell out in 2014 for a QB. 3. CB Logan Ryan, Rutgers There are a couple corners this team desperately needs. Logan Ryan is an interesting roll of the dice, as he was a true shutdown corner against admittedly inferior talent this year. He's very fast and athletic, but for the most part simply hadn't been significantly challenged. I expect some growing pains. 3. CB Desmond Trufant, Washington Comes from an NFL family, and his brother plays relatively well in the NFL. The Chiefs need to heavily invest at this position. 4. WR Markus Wheaton, Oregon State Wheaton is a really interesting burner that this team could use. With Bowe and Baldwin, the Chiefs have red zone threats. But they have lacked a credible deep threat since Eddie Kennison. 5. ILB Nico Johnson, Alabama A thumper's thumper, I think Nico is rocketing up draft boards and won't stay at the midrounds for long. 6. OLB Wes Horton, USC Your typical USC passrusher -- lanky, athletic, unproductive. Has all the athleticism and size you need to succeed at this level. Will need to get more consistently with his moves. 7. SS Bacarri Rambo, Georgia Roll of the dice here more than anything. I like Rambo but I have no idea how he'll translate to the NFL. 7. OG Gabe Ikard, Oklahoma Overlooked all season was how effective Oklahoma's runblocking was all season. I think Ikard could serve as effective depth for a team that loves to run the ball. |

Everything I've seen out of Star seems to suggest that he's incapable of rushing the passer the way JJ Watt does it. I think we're better off drafting Damontre Moore and praying he can bulk up enough to play on the line than wasting a pick on Star "Dontari Jackson" Lotulelei.
I disagree with you 100% on the QBs, dude. Using your criteria for the #1 overall pick, "The #1 overall pick should be made for a player who will be an integral part of your Super Bowl run," that rules out EVERY PLAYER IN THIS DRAFT. Basically, if you don't like any of the QBs this year, you're not going to get that special player. He doesn't exist in this draft. Your only option is to roll the dice on one of the QBs. Star isn't it. None of the LTs are (because LTs don't win you shit) and none of these passrushers can do what we've seen out of a Von Miller. |

I see no scenario where Tyler Wilson will be there in the second round. Too many teams need a qb. Wilson will probably go in the top ten.
Whatever crack you are smoking, you must have really, really good stuff.

As a huge Washington fan, I really don't like Desmond Trufant. He is projected as high as he is due to his name. His play doesn't warrant it.

I like it but, Trufant is a borderline first round pick imo. Rambo is at least a 3rd. He's a play making machine.
I have a lot of respect for you for being brave and not taking a QB #1 on this site. The Chiefs are not going to do that period. Also, like you I believe these QBs are going to drop like rocks in water. Good post man. |

You've lost your ****ing mind.
This one is even worse than your previous one. Did you get kicked in the head by a mule recently? Last edited by Saccopoo; 01-27-2013 at 05:56 PM.. |

He obviously has something to hide or he would have played. Good players don't duck the competition. It's all going to come out in due time.

I also don't see Tyler lasting until the 2nd, especially getting by Jacksonville in the 2nd.

We may as well just draft a defensive lineman every year forever.

@ Tyler Wilson available in the 2nd, Bacarri Rambo available in the 7th, and potentially Marcus Trufant & Nico Johnson available in the 3rd/5th.
Might as well have this mock: 1. Geno Smith, QB, WVU 2. Keenan Allen, WR, Cal 3. DeMarcus Milliner, CB, Alabama 3. Tyler Eifert, TE, Notre Dame 4. Matt Elam, S, Florida 5. Manti Teo, LB, Notre Dame 6. Sharrif Floyd, DE, Florida 7. Tyler Bray, QB, Tennessee 7. Barrett Jones, OL, Alabama Sooper bowlz

Rambo will closer to seventh overall than he will to the seventh round.
