I'd definitely take a chance on the guy. The question is: what round do you take a stab at it? Round 3, imo.

Not before the 5th IMO. Guy can't play man coverage.

With the #1 pick in the round, 4th is probably too high. There will be some legitimate starting caliber players to be found on the O and D lines there.
I'd use our 5th on him and install him as a NCB/Returner. He'd essentially be what Javier Arenas was supposed to be, only he'd actually be a premier returner and he'd be taken in the round you're supposed to take guys like that. Lattimore, OTOH, I'd strongly consider in the 4th. I know it's risky, but man medicine does some amazing stuff. He could be an amazing runner and it sure would be nice to have him in the pipe for the 2014 season. If McGahee went in the first, Lattimore will probably go in the 2nd.

Jonathan Franklin from UCLA is someone we should pursue, imo. Good vision in games I saw him, and from what I read he may be flying under the radar.

If I'm using a late round flier on someone that has issues it's Lattimore.
Draft Austin (WVU) and give Honey Badger the finger. |

I wanna throw this out there: Tyrann Mathieu as a free safety.
The dude may struggle in man coverage. He may be small. But he is a ball hawk who packs a punch. |

There are some really good free safety prospects in: Phillip Thomas, Fresno State Bacarri Rambo, Georgia TJ McDonald, UCLA and I'd even put Florida State CB Xavier Rhodes in that group as well with his great size (6'2", 217 lbs). The kid obviously has great instincts, but there is no way in hell that he's going to play anything other than PR/KR at the next level. At 5'8", 180, he would be absolutely destroyed at FS and lacks the height to play CB. With a team that already has Arenas, McCluster and Wylie, Tyrann would be a redundant pick. And add to it that he's a junkie. Can't stay away from it. You are talking about having to baby sit a punt returner. No way I'd waste a draft pick on that. |
