Well, it doesn't make them less of a bunch of shitstains, but IN GENERAL, under the law, there is no responsibility for one person to go and save another from a troublesome/dangerous situation. There are a bunch of exceptions to that, arising from whether you have a duty to do it based on your position/role there. For example, cops, lifeguards when on duty, parents vis-a-vis their children, etc.

But generally, if a guy was choking on the street, and you had CPR training and was an actual instructor on the heimlich maneuver, you could choose to just walk around the guy and go on your merry way.

Again, general rules only. And there's some good reasons for those rules.

But yeah, these teens suck as human beings. No doubt about that. It just isn't illegal.

In this day and age of technology where everyone has a cell phone, I think we will see a slow chipping away of the old common-law rule.

Although different, the recent Carter case seemed to acknowledge she had a duty to make a phone call.

Why do the teens suck? The guy walked out into the middle of a pond about 50 feet/yards fully clothed and wanted someone to come and get his ass. What were they supposed to do? 1... It's hard to swim out that far. 2... When trying to save someone that's drowning, they usually panic and pull you under so they can stay on top of the water. 3. They had to swim BACK ANOTHER 50 feet/yards.

It would've possibly been more than 1 body in that pond if someone would've tried to go out of there and help him. I bet he won't do anymore drugs though.

Nobody is saying the guy isn't stupid. The world is just shocked by the depravity of the teenagers.

Yeah, this. I wish we knew the names of the teens so we could avoid ever hiring them or associating with them in any way.

I wish there was a big database somewhere where you could enter the good things or bad things about people, so you can look someone up to see if they're terrible or nice. You'd think that Santa Claus would monetize his data analytics at some point.

Cocoa FL has gators everywhere. Nobody from Cocoa in their right mind would go near any body of water. I've had gators run along the side of my car while driving through Cocoa. I've also seen very large gators in swimming pool size retention ponds, in the salt water rivers and the ocean.

That is absolutely true.

We teach the "Reach, Throw, Row, Go" method of water rescue. Basically, swimming out there is the absolute last resort, only for professionals, only with an abundance of gear, and only if the victim is unconscious.

I'm not sure we're really saying the kids should have dived in, but you could call 911 and throw the guy a stick or something.

At the very least, don't stand there and video it while laughing, because that moves you down the scale from 'horrified bystander' to 'someone who deserves to die in a tire fire'.
