There are still some good people left in this world
Long story short: I got in a hurry was backing up and didn't see one of my neighbors friends parked in the driveway and I clipped him. (me getting old and dumbassidity) Not much damage but marked his paint a little and crushed his plastic hubcap. Worst part about it was the dude was across the street in class while I was sitting there left to sweat it.
Anyway, I waited outside for him to get back, as I knew what my first reaction would be if I saw my car there like that, with insurance info in hand hoping I could afford to pay for it out of pocket rather than go through insurance. About 30 minutes later a Saudi Arabian fellow come hopping along, stopped when he saw his car, and I ran out to him. His reaction "don't sweat it, the marks will buff right out and I was going to get some rims because I hated the hubcaps. I'm not mad, thank you for waiting to tell me." I offered repeatedly to let me replace the damaged hub cap and repeatedly he refused. I didn't scratch the paint as I backed into him with my bad ass rear end of plastic but some paint did transfer. Point is quite a few people would so take advantage of this but this dude didn't even want to hear about me trying to make it even. |

Probably so. He's friends with my neighbor and my neighbor comes from big oil money. Regardless, he could have been a prick. In retrospect, I probably would have been.
Lesson learned. |

My point in posting the fact that he was Saudi Arabian is to try to dispel the evil stereotypes. Perhaps I shouldn't have because it didn't work.

I've been in a couple fender benders like this. As long as the car still runs life goes on. Never understood the people that will spend hundreds of dollars fixing a chipped paint job or dents that have no affect on the car running

I agree. I'll save that few hundred bucks and put it toward my next engine repair/maintenance.

Years ago I had some kid come knocking on my door, I answered and I could tell right away he was nervous about something. So I asked him what's up, and he told me he had hit my van that I had parked in the street. So I went out with him to look at it, right away saw that the passenger side mirror on his car was hanging by the cable so I assumed mine would be gone since they were cargo van mirrors that stuck out farther.
When I got to the other side of my van I was surprised to not only see the mirror still attached and fully intact, it wasn't even slightly out of place. There was a black scuff on the door with a slight crease, but I laughed and told him it was his lucky day, just be more careful in the future. The kid seemed genuinely uncomfortable with the fact that I told him not to worry about it, but I sure as hell wasn't going to stick him with a bill for bodywork and paint on a 10+ yr old work van. And once I buffed out the black mark you could hardly see the crease. Still to this day don't understand how he was close enough to destroy his own mirror, but not even touch mine. Yes, damn those people who spend $30-40k or even more on a car and expect it to look good! We should all just drive beaters! |

You must drive piece of shit vehicles. If I have spent $40,000 to $50,000 on a vehicle and you dent/scratch it, you can bet your ass I'm getting it fixed and your insurance is going to pay for it.

I used to spend a bunch of money on a vehicle and trade in every couple years to upgrade. Then I moved to Missouri. They hit me hard every year for personal property tax on vehicles so most of my stuff is old now to minimize my December obligation.

You are correct. I would never spend that much money on a car. I'd buy the $10,000 car and use the other $30,000 for pussy and drugs.
