Computer Pros: Please Help!
Alright. My computer is infested with a ****ed up virus that has bogged down my computer. It takes over my google searches and sends me to stupid advertisements that I can't back out of. It's just all around ****ed.
I'm basically trying to reset the computer to factory settings, and it's a Dell Inspiron. From what I've found online, it's incredibly non user friendly and I need to hit F8 from the start up menu when the Dell sign comes up. Problem is when I do that, my computer pretty much just starts beeping at me like defcon 4, and won't go into the advanced menu. I'm stuck, and mostly computer reeruned. Please help. My computer hates me. |

A while back I was thinking we should have something stickied, like some basic virus troubleshooting.... but even that's probably overkill, since it's always the same damn thing.

To boot to safe mode, hit F8 when the windows splash screen comes up.

Thank you. I don't know anything about any of the actual commands. If the Rogue Killer doesn't work, that's where I'll go next.

I read that stuff, it wants you to boot safe mode w/networking...Im afraid you're going to need to rebuild.

If you don't care about what's on it and have a recovery CD, you can put the CD in and try F12 when the Dell screen comes up, then select the CD as what you want to boot from... then you can simply reinstall Windows.
Or else mikey's advice. Or bring your laptop to the bash and I'll install a better OS and you won't have to worry about this sort of thing in the future.
