Spinoff: Dez Bryant's playoff 'non-catch' revisited

There's been lots of talk about the new catch rules. People say it shouldn't be this difficult then we have four different opinions on what should constitute a catch within the same thread.

So, we revisit the Dez Bryant no-catch in the playoffs a few years ago. It was ruled incomplete, but what do you think? I'm not interested in how you feel about it as it relates to the rules when you were growing up, at the time of the play, or now. I just want to know if you think Dez Bryant caught this pass.

I rule no catch. The ball hit the ground and bobbled before he was a runner.

If he had not been touched by the defender, and the ball had come completely out of his hands when he came down, and this happened in the middle of the field (so no touchdown, touchback or out of bounds) would you guys thinking it was a catch rule it a catch and fumble?

If you are going to start ruling it a catch then maybe the NFL needs a down without contact like college.

Of course it's a catch by any common sense definition. He had complete possession of the ball for several steps and only lost it when he lunged for the end zone. And I hate Dez Bryant and the Cowboys.

Catch. He had possession and the ground caused the ball to come out.

It's a catch. I say that as a Packer Fan born and raised not too far from Milwaukee. But it's funny because it's against the Cowboys

Yes.

It was a catch and the ball was dead when he hit the ground.

What happened after doesn't matter.

Same with the Pitt TE last year vs NE - once the ball crosses the goal line it's a TD and the play is over.

They just love to "interpret" the rules...

Because the ball shifted as he reached for the ground.

That little shift/bobble is enough for "possession through the process" to be be interpreted.

Which is ****ing stupid.

It's a catch, down at the 1/2 yd line.

Good catch: Has possession, 2 feet down, and making a 'football move' by stretching for the goal line.
