Alex Smith on the 2007 Patriots
So, just to carry this debate out to its logical conclusion -
The 2007 Pats went 16-0. The team was by any measure completely loaded. Randy Moss was torching defenses, Wes Welker was still in his prime, they had the league's #1 offense and #4 defense in points and yards. One of the five greatest head coaches of all time. Of course, they didn't win the Super Bowl, but this was probably the most loaded team in recent memory for a franchise that's won 5 super bowls this century. If you change nothing but put Alex Smith on that team - same personnel, same head coach, Alex Smith is the quarterback - could that team win a Super Bowl? Would that team be a contender? |
