Albums to Cassettes to CDs to Digital to MP3 now to Smart Phone

I am an old cave man. I spent hours downloading all my CDs to the computer. Now I can't find them any more. I looked in "My Music" files, did a global c:\ search for "Eagles" to no result. I did the convert years ago, can't remember how I did it. Did I use on off 'puter "cloud", "I Tunes" to burn them or are they still on my system some place? Or a seperate burning software. I upgraded to win 8 last year??

JEEZ, AFTER 2 HOURS SURFING...WIN 8 DIDN'T COME WITH MEDIA CENTER (which I think I used to convert and burn)..I TRIED CNET AND GOT A BUNCH OF CRAP ..ADS, AIDS, ANTIFREEZE, ..DONE HERE. I WILL LISTEN TO MY VINYL

BTW, I can play my MP3 on my computer, shows elevntiy billion songs.

I happened upon an Olivia Newton-John youtube and want to update. BTW, if you have not heard of her...please google and listen to "I Honesty Love You". Timeless and goodness she was HOT. Old lady now.

I have 400+ cds and years ago up loaded them on to the 'puter. I am coming out of my cave and finally got a smart phone. So want to convert from my old MP3 tunes to the smart phone. And add on new tunes as well.

That "years ago", after I finally threw my Walkman cassette player away and all of my cherished cassettes as well.

An aside: the hours it took me to record from vinyl to cassette. I never attempted to record on to 8 track...not sure it you could. Placing the record needle onto the song, then clicking the cassette record button at the same time to perfection. Then waiting until the song ended to lift the needle before the next song on the album started. Perfection again. You had to have a 3-5 second pause in between songs on the cassette. Perfection. Switch albums to the next song NEEDED to make the sequence right, and rinse and repeat. Example: GF, blind folded, head phoned, syrup, feathers, Hot Wheels, ice cubes...20 min later the song needed to be "I am in You" by Peter Frampton.

I spent hours/days doing this crap.

Fast forward 30 yrs...sucks.

So I downloaded a bunch of my CDs to digital. To convert to digital all my CDs, again took a long time. Sorted through all the songs and picked the best ones. I distilled them and made the "best of" CDs, like my old cassettes. I pulled the best of the best onto the MP3 player (300 songs).

Holy Smokes, you can put 500 songs on the size of a match box!!!

Now I would like to transfer all Best New CDs stuff and MP3 to Smart Phone.

Other topic, Sorry for the rambling...getting pissed at Tech. Spent 2 hrs trying to set up 2 TVs (input) toy room and living room, from 1 DVR (output). Got a cheap splitter (HDMI) to run both TVs. I get the TVs picture and sound to work, switch "source" to do the DVD player, then the sound kicks out on the TVs, when I switch back. Unplug spillter and all works fine. Plug in spilter and works again. Turn off TV/DVR, again, no sound. Thinking the splitter is bad. I was just at Best Buy yesterday and could have gotten a spare. But I live out in the middle of nowhere and would take me 2 hrs to get another. AAAHHH Then the Satalite says lost a transponder. Come down to the mancave to do "easy" music crap. AAAAHHHHHHH. Too Old and tired now. 5:00 am.

Done.

AT THIS POINT, WHATEVER,,,,STAY A CAVEMAN

****Gonna listen to "Have you ever been mellow" by Olivia with 1 finger of whiskey to settle.***********

I'm not sure how much help anyone can provide if you can't remember where you put them. It's probably in iTunes or something.

I've gone the gamut from obsessively participating in 'mailtrees" to trade bootlegs of live bands (I had like 2000 hours of cassette recordings of live bootlegs of jambands) to recording CDs, to going to MP3s, to torrenting...

I was obsessive in my desire to obtain and catalog music. Then..I discovered streaming services and was liberated. I admit that I sometimes miss the finding and collecting, but it's so nice just to have what I want on demand as I want it without having to go out and procure it.

You "upgraded" to Windows 8? Hmm.

I recently found some lost files in a Network folder after a Browser update. Network>Laptop>Users. Quite a relief it was.

I will never succumb to this. Streaming is for people too lazy to care. Music matters!

As for the OP, I would suggest you stay with your MP3 player. Phones break and have an average life span of 2 years. Plus they are so expensive.

I go running with my old ipod shuffle. Only holds 500mb, about 80 songs. I had to split up my music into 500mb groups on my laptop. ITunes has an auto playlist to function by size. So each time I go for a run, I pick from over a dozen playlists, download and go.

If it rains or I drop my MP3 player, it's $40. Not $500.

Besides, my taste in music is way beyond what some hack DJ thinks. I want to hear obscure stuff that never comes on air.

Sorry for the rant. We hit a pet peeve. ..

LOLWUT? Streaming isn't listening to a DJ. You can stream whatever you want, including your own obscure stuff. What I did is upload my own entire album collection to Google Play, and I stream my own music. Including my own playlists that I created. That allows me to play any of my playlists on whatever device I want wherever I am. Your rant is a bit ignorant.

Still hate it. I'm often away from internet connection - the beach, the trails, etc. Or slows down...nope. Give me my music when I want it please.
