Unreal Estate Game: Illinois
Five houses in the land of Lincoln (the president, not the city in Nebraska).

Living in downtown Chicago is something I'd like to try.

My rankings:
Chicago - I like the condo and I like the downtown part of Chicago. It's got good views, too. There are more grand houses, but the location here is a big winner for me. Riverside - I like the house a lot. The location is so-so. Not the worst, but not the best. The kitchen is a bit too retro for my tastes. Joliet - Love the house. That's an awesome house. I just wish it was closer to stuff. It's not really near anything. But I think it's the best house in the group. Springfield - Yet another good house. Illinois seems to be full of cool houses in bad locations, and this is no exception. Champaign - Cool house. It reminds of the non-scary version of the Munsters house. It's got a great location next to a park and a couple of blocks from a shopping area. On the downside, it's apparently been a funeral home recently, and I despise central Illinois due to some bad experiences there in the past. If it wasn't in central Illinois I would rate it higher.

I don't know if it's the actor himself or just the character he played, but Bronson Pinchot makes me cringe. How about a more ... uh ... uh ... agreeable Chicago character?

How does the Chicago condo have zero HOA fees? That can't be right. Also property tax is $60k / year? Or are they saying the unit is assessed at $60k?

I bet they didn't include the HOA fees, because they have to have some. The "payment options" section is showing property taxes at about $17,000 per year, so I think the $60k figure is the assessment figure.

680 North LakeShore drive is legit unfair as a location. You rigged this one, Rainman.
I think the interior is awful and would need to be redone. It looks like a Grandma's place; she reads a lot of books or at least buys them. That said, at only 3k sq. ft I'd save money on total maid hours cleaning the interior/month over the 7k+ homes. I wonder how much a parking spot costs.. it doesn't list it. The house in Joliet looks nice though |
