It's a happy day for the Blowfish Household.

Our Independence Gilded Palace, Statey Wayne Minor, is now paid for. Yep, Mrs. Blowfish and I are proud home owners. Paid off a 30 year FHA loan in 21 years.

Very happy day in my life. Seems like it took forever to accomplish.

Now I must get to work on paying off the New Lesbaru.....

I have a 1997 Cougar XR7 in the garage that we're restoring. It's the last big cougar, 2 door, bad ass, V8 muscle car. It will get some love later this year at the body shop. Needs paint and rust repair, some interior work.

Its not that hard to do, just acquire a small plot of land, then buy a cheap camper on Craigslist to live in, put it on the land and WHAM you are your own landlord.

That's muscle in 1997 terms. Granted, it's not a big block Chevy. But it was the top of the line Cougar in 1997 with all the goodies. It's plenty fast, believe me.

Its the kind of car where you get it on the interstate, start cruising, and before you know it, you're doing 85mph.

And it gets gallons to the mile.

Great feeling, isn't it? I paid off my mortgage in 2012. I had my last car payment in July of last year. It definitely frees up a lot of money.

I paid mine off around 2013. I keep expecting to see huge snowdrifts of money piling up in my bank account, but it hasn't happened. It's a bit of a mystery. I think I should probably start tracking our budget.

I still pay insurance and taxes, of course, but the lack of P&I along with no car payments reduced monthly expenses by about $1400. I definitely noticed it in the bank account.
