Football IS THIS A BACKWARDS LATERAL?

The one that LT laterals to Chambers...you know, when he clearly tosses the ball behind him when Chambers wraps around him at the very beginning.

I think it's a lateral, but it's closer than you think. LT continues running forward as he lets go of the ball and Chambers is running in the opposite direction. That makes it appear that it is further behind LT, but if you look at the yard markers it's within a foot or two.

I played flag football and used to lateral all of the time...all of the time. I would literally never throw a forward lateral because I'm not an idiot. People always assume laterals are forward because the guy you're lateraling it to is usually in full stride and it can trick the eye a little bit...used to get accused of forward laterals all of the time and it would drive me crazy.

I mean, LT throws the ball behind him...a perfect lateral, really...a designed lateral, as well...as I assume they practice that miracle play and that's the first leg in it (the wrap around can be tricky for the defense)...

I mean, I can't believe anyone could argue otherwise.

It's really hard to determine that due to the quality in question. But the first lateral, to me, despite the quality of it, looks like it was going forward, based on the guy's body motion. I cannot determine where the ball originally was starting to move.

but LT did the exact same thing everyone used to try and accuse me of doing in flag football...

He's not throwing the ball forward...he's running...and he clearly flips the ball backwards.

I mean, that is clear as day backward lateral. If you're running and you throw a forward lateral it is 100% blatantly obvious.

This is 100% blatantly obvious a backwards lateral. I have no idea how anyone could see otherwise. I've watched it about 85 times now because I'm dumbfounded.

Question? If that was a fumble can't it still be advanced by the defense for a touhdown? If so that should have been a touchdown. Should of been a touchdown because it was a backwards lateral.

Next time the Chargers and Steelers play, they should overturn the call on the field prior to the kickoff and just pick up the game where that play left off.

FFS, I agreed with you. I just said it was closer than it looks at real speed. The still photo you posted even proves that it is closer than you are letting on. It's a lateral and the refs ****ed up, but it's not like he lateral end it 2 ****ing yards.

I love the whole "have you ever lateraled before" bullshit. You are not the only person on this board who played sports or still play. Your extensive flag football experience has no bearing on the breakdown of this play.
