SceneItAll Tournament: Round 3, Heat 9

Changing things up a little in Round 3. I will present five scenes, and you will pick your TWO favorite scenes. The top two vote-getters will advance to Round 4, and others will have a chance at a wildcard spot.

Start this clip at the invasion - the 3:02 mark.

My votes in a very solid heat:

#1 - Pulp Fiction. The more I see this scene, the more I like it. There's a lot going on.

#2 - The Sixth Sense. Creepy, but creepy in a good way. I really like this scene.

#3 - Star Wars. Seriously, that was a huge design flaw. How did the Imperial engineers miss that?

#4 - Saving Private Ryan. Well done, but too violent for my 21st-century tastes.

#5 - A Few Good Men. Very well done, but it doesn't have enough going on to compete with overdoses and poltergeists and blowing up giant space stations and invasions of Europe.

For everything Rain Man says he doesn't like in movies is what Pulp Fiction is all about ~ yet ~ that has been his favorite scenes most in the tournament. I find that most interesting.

I can narrow it down to three, but that's it. A Few Good Men, Saving Private Ryan, and The Sixth Sense.

I guess I will not vote since I can't pick just two...

When I think about what the movie is about, the stuff that I don't like - mobster stuff, mean people, and gore - is all pretty cartoonish. It's not realistic. I think the movie isn't really about that stuff. It's about witty dialogue, quirky humor, and people going about their everyday lives.

When you think about this movie, it's really just two working stiffs having a rough day at the office.

I think I've reached the time that I'll hold on my vote for a bit so I don't waste it on something either with no chance or that doesn't need my help..

In this instance, I like four of the five scenes, but I have an intense dislike for all things Tom Cruise. I'll vote for whatever scenes have the best chance to remove A Few Good Men from the competition. If I were voting purely on instinct, here's my list:

1-Saving Private Ryan (and on the eve of the 4th, this patriotic moment is a "favorite").

2-The Sixth Sense (great set-up for the later pay-off; curse you St. Louis Post-Dispatch for ruining this movie for me).
3-Pulp Fiction (Team Uma).
4-Star Wars (we've seen two better scenes from the series already).

5-Anything with Tom Cruise.

RainMan really sucks at determining what scenes get in which heat.

I'm pretty sure the heats are totally random which is entirely fair--especially with the wild card heat that would give a second chance to movie in an especially tough heat.

I'm already curious about the methodology for Round 4 and on. I think that there are 14 heats in Round 3--which would mean 28 movies continue on. I'd guess that he'll let in four wild cards and then we have the final 32 movies. Maybe single elimination from there on out? That would only be 31 more rounds (16, 8, 4, 2, 1), I think...

It's his fault somehow.

A Few Good Men needs to be in Round 4. It should probably win it all.

Saving Private Ryan and Star Wars get my vote in the end.

To Tom Cruise: "You Can't Handle the Third (Round)!"

This is probably the strongest heat of the tournament so far..

I'm torn between Saving Private Ryan, A Few Good Men, and The Sixth Sense. I can't decide which two to choose.
