A few teams with quarterback needs have an interesting strategy. I’ve heard that at least four quarterback-needy teams—Houston (first pick), Jacksonville (3), Cleveland (4) and Oakland (5)—are strongly considering passing on quarterbacks with their first picks and waiting until their second or third selections. Simple reason: They’re not in love with any of the quarterbacks, and there are too many other good players who are surer things than a quarterback you have sincere doubts about. For that reason, there could be more quarterbacks taken in round two than round one. For instance, Jacksonville really likes Jimmy Garoppolo of Eastern Illinois, and he’d likely be there high in the second round when the Jags pick again, at 39.

So... I finished my own personal QB rankings. I have them split into rankings as mobile QBs and pocket QBs. I have detailed write-ups of each of them on the link. And... well.. let's just say it doesn't go along with the consensus. lol. Not that my opinions ever really have since I started spending way too much time doing this stuff. *Please note that "mobile" does not mean "running." It has to do with a QB's ability to move and to throw on the run, incorporate rollouts, etc.

Jim Harbaugh: David Fales a top-five quarterback in 2014 draft

There's a consensus on the top four quarterbacks in this year's draft: Johnny Manziel, Teddy Bridgewater, Blake Bortles and Derek Carr (in no particular order, of course). But who rounds out the top five?

San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh has a bit of an unconventional choice. Not AJ McCarron. Not Jimmy Garoppolo. Not Aaron Murray. Harbaugh says it's San Jose State's David Fales.

"I'm a big fan," Harbaugh said, according to the Sacramento Bee. "My personal evaluation of this class has David in the top five."

Jeremiah said he liked Fales' accuracy as a passer and believes he could succeed in an offense that relies more on rhythm and timing than on the deep ball. But Harbaugh said he doesn't have a problem with Fales' perceived lack of arm strength.

"You see a very compact throwing motion today, more compact than I saw during his career," he said. "But he was still throwing the ball 50, 55 yards downfield, throwing the deep comebacks, the outside lanes like he threw in college, easily, accurately and on a line. We talked a little after the workout. I don't see any deficiencies that way."

This is the Qb who worked out with Alex Smith last offseason, and this offseason.

hmm, I could see the 49ers drafting Fales and then eventually trading him to the chiefs to continue the chiefs-49ers qb pipeline.
