If Mahomes wasn’t avail, what was KC strategy for QB?

Good thing we won’t ever know but had this convo with some friends and we all had diff opinions. What do you think the plan would’ve been?

It was Watson. He was the backup plan. Still way better than Alex and any option we would have had the next few years had we missed on Pat

Easily Watson. Not as good as Mahomes but still more of a threat than Alex.

I dont know that they move up for Watson though. I think they ride it out with Alex a few more years.

By drafting Mahomes, many suicides were averted.

I'm not convinced that they move up for Watson. Watson's play recognition just doesn't fire as quickly as Mahomes, which is why he holds the ball so long and takes so many sacks.

And that would've shown up on the drawing board....the one Reid put Mahomes through the ringer on.

And lets not forget Reid's favorite Alex trait: Gigabytes.

I think this is spot on. We never would have traded up to get Watson. The only we traded up for Mahomes is because we thought he was the best talent in the draft.

Why do you say that? Watson was the higher rated prospect by all the mocks and draft grades. Doesn’t mean we rated him higher but how do you know this?

Considering all the backdoor monitoring of Mahomes, Veach's constant contact for 2+ years with Mahomes' people, and the complete infatuation he had with Mahomes, i doubt Watson was ever really on their radar aside from your expected due-diligence. Veach was in on Mahomes since he became the starting QB at Tech.

Of course none of us KNOW, but based on what we've heard, it was Mahomes or bust.

And like i said in my previous posts, im not sure that Watson wow'd Reid on the board. Mahomes' intelligence is one of the best parts of his game.

If Watson processed as quickly as Mahomes did he wouldn't hold the ball so damn long and take so many sacks.
