If you could trade the #1 pick for multiple picks and still get your QB, what's the harm?

I saw one draft that said Geno Smith isnt worth #1, but then had him going at #6 saying "you cant pass up value like that at #6". Is 6 to 1 that much of a "reach"?
They are just finding things to say at this point. Its four months away for christs sake.

This only further goes in line with my argument. As the #1 pick in his draft (2005), Smith received a 6 year, $49.5 million dollar contract with $24 million guaranteed.
If we draft Geno Smith at #1, he wouldn't get a contract even close to that.

I agree... but if you can't, then I have absolutely no issues with them taking him as a "reach" at #1.

But who's going to give up picks to get to #1 this year? There isn't a dominant player that teams can't do without. Just a bad year to have the top pick both from a pick yourself and a trade the pick standpoint.

Because they will **** it up. Determine the best QB available and take him. **** draft value.

Understandable point, but why would any team trade up? What player in this draft is worth trading up to #1 for?

Its possible. There is almost a certitude that one of either Moore, Jones, or Werner will be there when the Lions pick. But if they really, really, really loved one of those guys in particular then they might offer the Chiefs some picks.
It'd be a little like the Chiefs trading up from 5 to 1 to draft Eric Berry though. |
