ISP from Germany vs. US: Death of a G-Mom

My wife is a travel agent that works virtual, from our home. She works for BCD Travel, one of the largest INTERNATIONAL agencies for corporate travel. She works for their Raytheon account. Basically, have computer and internet, can work anywhere.

She is a German citizen (born there) and got her US citizenship 20 yrs ago. Thus dual.

Over the years, she would go visit her family and work at the same time. No problems. The last time the "higher ups" learned of her work "not in the US" and flagged her. Company policy does not allow for working outside the US from the HR dept.

I understand as a Travel Agent, one would like to work on the beach at Caba/Paris/London etc. for ?? workmans comp/insurance/employeement, FICA/MICA and other BS??. All travel agents would work at their dream location. Most of them are not citizens of that nation of their dream local.

But she as a German citizen. A car wreck, injury at work, taxes (she is W-2), not sure what else kind of liability the would incur. The HR dept has said that she can not work in Germany. She has gone up the chain to determine why. No good answer other than company policy.

Her Grandmother died on Saturday and would like to go to the funeral. She doesn't have the vacation time to spend 2 weeks in Germany with the family.

The point: if she takes her computer and hooks up to the internet in Germany and works her normal hours and in her off time looks after the family...can they trace that she is working in Germany from her ISP? If so, how can she get around that? In my limited mind, her extension would be a .DE not .US.

It all comes down to a Bi$&ch in HR that won't allow working outside the US. Because every travel agent would want to do that. If you are a citizen of that national, you should be able to work. If not, tough titty.

Her favorite Grandmother just died. She wants to work. The head of HR is Swedish. She should have gone up the food chain earlier to get a resolution, but didn't.

I told her to go, hook up and work. Take care of the family issues. If BCD finds out, tell the truth. Have tried to use the chain of command...with no good answers, G-Mom died, willing to work etc.

So, is there anyway, she can work over there via internet connection to show that she is still in Kansas, Alaska, Hawaii, Montana?

Again, oxymoron, INTERNATIONAL company not allowing a German Citizen to work in Germany.

Can she do the bulk of the work (research/composition of quotes/itineraries) in secret and forward the communications to you, which you then send to bosses/contacts/clients from your home computer in her name?

Well, if you had a computer set up here with a mirroring program installed she could just access that computer from wherever she is and work away. The local computer would technically be the computer connecting into her work, not the computer accessing it. I haven't done anything with mirroring in a long time and only limited when I did do it but I'd think that would be a workaround you could use. I'd think it wouldn't be detectable and I thinking spoofing IPs sometimes is.

I use TeamViewer when I'm away from home and my wife needs help on the computer. It would work but can be laggy at times. I guess it would depend on how efficient she would need to be.

I've downloaded and used IP address changers to make Google phone calls from Honduras, making them think I was in the US. Search for IP changers and use it while she is gone.

Spoof the IP address to one near what you router is at. Example if your router is connected to 10.24.33.17 just change the 17 to 19. I'd tell her to forget two weeks in Germany go to the funeral stay a couple extra days, then come back before you get caught.

The way that would be probably the easiest for someone who doesn't have a huge technical background would be to just use something like TeamViewer(or something similar) on a computer you have at home and just remote into it from Germany. No one would be able to tell you are working elsewhere.

not workable to take unpaid days off, minimum time, to be w/ family, not work, then avoid any trouble?

if they have issues with the time off, she should push hard to remind them i'm perfectly willing to work but you wont let me.

She would need to mask her IP as though it was coming from the US. Easiest way is to find a free VPN that is secure and is in the US. She hits the the US IP based VPN, and conducts business like that.

This is also another viable method. Remote access to her US based machine (via a VPN). this way her US based machine is passing KVM to her laptop (or whatever machine) in Germany. And thus the business is being conducted on her US based machine.
