Lost files on external hard drive!

Need some help for a tragic situation....

My external hard drive "lost" a couple very important folders that contained about 25 years of music and music video collection.

I've tried CHKDSK and recovery programs.

On the recovery program, I see some files as "ok", some as "bad", but the ok files, when I try to recover, do not play (just garbled mess).

When I tried CHKDSK, the folders came back as "FOUND001" and "FOUND002", but all files within them are now CHK files - and each file is only 32kb (so I'm assuming they are just parts of what used to be a larger mp3 or mpeg file).

ANy ideas?

This is pretty freakin' tragic - as I had hundreds and thousands of rare remixes, etc etc. My entire DJ tools, poof - vanished!

And yes - I did have a backup on another external hard-drive - but the same thing happened to that disk as well (power failure I'm guessing).

ANy help would be greatly appreciated!

There are businesses that specialize in recovering data from bad HDDs. I would look into that as it sounds very important to you.

When you say you've tried recovery programs, what do you mean exactly?

Recuva I believe is the name of the recovery program I tried.
