Perspective on how well we played in the SB

49ers regular season scoring average: 29.9 points
49ers score in the Super Bowl: 20 points
Net: -9.9 points

Chiefs regular season scoring average: 28.2 points
Chiefs score in the Super Bowl: 31 points
Net: +3.2 points

49ers regular season defense scoring average: 19.4 points
49ers defensive scoring in the Super Bowl: 31 points
Net: +11.6

Chiefs regular season defense scoring average: 19.3
Chiefs defensive scoring in the Super Bowl: 20
Net: +0.7 points

Our Chiefs pretty much met or exceeded their regular season performance against one of the best offensive and defensive teams in the NFL.

While we forced the 49ers to significantly underperform their regular season performance by two scores on both sides of the ball.

49ers never trailed in the postseason until Mahomes ran that ass over in the 1st quarter.

49ers played the exact game they wanted to play. And damn, they can be very good.

But Mahomes was just Mahomes and our defense showed up in crucial spots as they've done consistently in the 2nd half of the season.

End of the day, it came down to the best player on the field winning the game. Nothing more; nothing less.

I actually think all the pundit analysis nailed it.

Phil Simms was on the phone during his son's podcast and said watching the game on tv he thought Mahomes wasn't having a very good day. But when he watched it on the all22 he was amazed at how well he was playing against incredible pressure.

That defense made Aaron Rodgers look like a terrible quarterback a couple of weeks ago. You gotta respect that d line and how good they are, and Mahomes got it done.

Still can't believe some commentators dont get "ITS THE SUPER BOWL"

Everything is different. Everyone is hyped. I did not expect PM to come in and put up 5 td's and 500 yards. Took a long time to settle down.

Maybe next time.....

We didn't play particularly well. We won playing our C- game offensively. That is how good this team is. Sure SF has something to do with that. But Pat threw an egregious interception. Then the second one, he was just thinking too much and was trying to slow down Tyreek to save him from getting blown up. The first one never happens, and the second one was a little unlucky.

I thought our defense was great, but we could not contain their outside running attack initially. That was a nice game plan by SF actually. SF was actually afraid of running it inside the tackles with Pennel, Nnadi, Jones & Suggs. Defense came a long way vs the run.

Just about everything went right for SF for three quarters, and the Chiefs still won. That's the story of LIV.

Mahomes played well. But he definitely looked a little tight at times. There was no doubt a ton of nerves. Even if they play the same defense next super bowl I think mahomes looks like a very different qb.

For a normal QB? Yeah. For Mahomes? He played bad.

And he's so good that his C- game destroys souls. I'm telling you, someday we are going to get in a shootout and he's going to set the NFL record for TDs in a game.

I see a 600 yd, 8 TD game at some point of his career.

I've never liked the narrative that Pat wasn't playing well throughout the entire game.

Pat rushed for our only TD in the first half, AFTER he ran for 12 yards on 3rd and 11. Yeah he looked out of sorts for the first three quarters because of the 49ers D Line, but I though he showed a ton of grit.

The Chiefs made the plays they needed to, the 49'ers did not.

-Mahomes 3rd and 15 long pass to Tyreek
-49'er pass rusher just misses Mahomes as he unloads pass to Tyreek
-Chris Jones batting down a pass to a wide open Kittle late in the game that would have given the 49'ers a first around the 50.
-Jimmy G's long pass to an open Emanuel Sanders just 3-4 feet too long to go ahead with a little over a minute to go in the game.
-Damien Williams sticking the ball out as he is going out of bounds to score the go-ahead TD
-Chiefs D has their first 3 and out late in the game to prevent 49'ers running out the clock
-Richard Sherman gets burnt like toast on a great move by Watkins and PMII drops a dime in stride

These plays late in the 4th QTR are why the Chiefs won and the 49'ers lost.
