How much would you spend on this endeavor?
As noted in the linked story, a fellow threw away a hard drive that contained 7,500 bitcoin (current value of $101 million).
It went to a landfill, though it appears that he may not know exactly where. It's been in the landfill now for a few years and so may not be recoverable even if he finds it. But if he does find it, it's worth $101 million. In your current financial situation, how much would you be willing to pay to sift through a landfill in search of this hard drive? https://gizmodo.com/man-who-threw-aw...-to-1820994313 |

I saw this earlier in the week and and read that there is likely now way the drive is ok because of the toxicity of the liquid that seeps into landfills.

No, a standard drive is only somewhat recoverable, requiring disassembly and delicate recovery efforts. I swap boards on drives and reset heads on clickers but I am afraid that sitting in a landfill would leave a .000000000000000001% chance of getting any data off of the drive.

I’d hire the people who built the Riverboat museum in River Market and offer them 20 million if it’s recoverable.
