LNBS: It's pointless bitching time! Yaaaaayy!!!!

I've got the Chiefs/49ers game on in the background (it's on NFL Network right now) and something occurred to me. Something we haven't talked about, really. And it's actually got nothing to do with the Chiefs-- it's Reuben Foster.

So I usually despise people who do the whole, "I wanted ______ in the draft! Waaaaahhhh!" Buuuut... I'm about to be a giant hypocrite and do the same thing.

Reports said Reuben Foster was on the Chiefs' radar. We had scouted him and obviously showed interest in him. And given we traded up for Chesson and Hunt (the Chesson trade up is still pretty ****ing confusing to me) I think it's fairly obvious our intent was to spend draft picks. Dorsey never wanted to keep all of the picks... it would be too many rookies. The team wouldn't know what to do with them all.

So it kind of bums me out that if that was the strategy Dorsey wanted to use that he didn't use them to trade up for a player like Foster.

I know people are pumped about Kpassagnon, but I'm still really meh on that pick. Until I see him figure out how to use his adonis body to make NFL football plays even though he doesn't have the length that other 3-4 DEs possess, I'm going to be kind of sour. And given this team churns out quality DL like Tiger churns out verbal diarrhea these days, it would have been really valuable to corral together some of these random loose pieces we picked up in this draft and use them to get a REALLY good player.

Coming out of this draft with Mahomes, Foster (or somebody who fell to the bottom of the 1st) and Hunt.... God, I know I wouldn't give a single shit if we didn't get another single pick out of the draft. That would have been amaze balls.

No, I don't play Madden. I don't really play video games. I'm just spewing this thought here because I can. Shit on it all you like.

I think we could have done better than Hunt but I can't complain about this draft we got.

I think it took Dee Ford some years to get it together and now he is going elevate himself even more and I think Kpassagnon will take a couple years too before we see what he is made of but he is really stout and will make an impact down the road for us.

My concern with Dee Ford this year is he will be going up against LT rather than him having success going against the RT when he was placed ROLB.

I'm hoping he takes another leap in being effective pass rusher I know our D line is going give O-line fits so that will help him.

I'm wanting Houston and Ford to sammich quarterbacks.

I hope Veach values linebackers in the draft more than Dorsey did.

I think Houston is going beast it up and return as he was but still I'm concerned for him being able to maintain that for years to come so we need to prepare for him in case his knees don't hold up long.

DJ seems like he is going have a great year but another I don't know how long before he hits that wall.

My complaint about the pick is:

1. We already have the ability to plug-and-play random assholes into the DL configuration and come out ahead.

2. Guys like Kpassagnon happen every year. Super strong freak athletes who need pro coaching to do anything with it? How many of those have passed through the NFL? Tons. And it's not like they all turn into beast players. Look at the guy we're trying to replace-- Allen Bailey. Through some years in the NFL, he turned into a pretty decent starting 3-4 DE. He signed about as team friendly of an extension as you can get. And yet the focus since he signed that deal has been on replacing him, ideally with someone more consistent is pass rush situations who won't cost as much. Is that really how good "Country Strong" can be? If that's what HE'S all about, what hope does Kpassagnon have?

3. As a combination of the two... DL? Yes, it's smart to see around the corners of the roster and plan for the future. Consistently, however, Dorsey has drafted with only this in mind, particularly in the high rounds. We HAD enough defensive linemen on the team. And quality NFL DL are coming through the college system more and more each year. Positions like LB, OT, and QB are not. When you find a good LB or OT, you have to pounce.

People bitch that Dorsey is throwing away the 2017 season when he traded up for Mahomes. They're stupid. I, however, would argue that he could have traded up for Mahomes AND traded up for Foster if he wanted people off his back that he didn't give a shit about 2017.

Ramik Wilson I'm sure will be a decent player for us. For many seasons, even. We gotta find some more now, however, and I don't think they're going to be very easy to come by.

If everyone is healthy I agree. I think we're deep at DE.

This and the cap had to be huge areas of concern with Dorsey.

Even if our draft picks worked out we were just treading water - and we definitely didn't save any money.

Fish replaced Albert. Ford was meant to replace Hali, and only in year 3 will that actually happen. Even though I think he'll be an exceptional pass rusher we wasted his cap $$$ for 3 years.

You can't have big cap money sitting behind big cap money. It makes no sense...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

If KC had used the picks they did to get Hunt, plus the 2nd rounder, plus the next 5th round selection, they still wouldn't have had the value to move up to 31 according to draft value charts.

Now those aren't gospel but even if SF accepts it there is no way we would also have what it would have taken to get Hunt as well.

I think the DL was so depleted last year that the coaches probably went to Dorsey and said "hey man we need help. Draft a guy who has athleticism and talent." Last year we were bringing street players in. By my count we had 3: TJ Barnes, Kendall Reyes and Jarvis Jenkins.
Add to the fact that a month before the draft this team realized Jaye Howard was a permanent broke dick and there ya go.

These guys are always going to value there trenches, but I really like that KPass can play OLB or DE bc it gives us insurance in case Dee Ford or Houston get hurt.
If this team is going to have a chance at winning, it needs a pass rush from the inside and outside.

Frank ****ing Zombo is sure as hell not gonna do it and Tamba is old as hell. That alone makes the pick play in my book.

It took longer than that to develop Allen Bailey. Dee Ford (as you already mentioned). Eric Fisher. Sheesh, I'm STILL waiting on that guy to become the solid top 10 OT we were promised.

You hit the nail on the head. Start drafting some guys who can actually ****ing play early in their rookie years. And if you HAVE to draft a bunch of high potential guys, do it in the goddamn mid-late rounds. Get our 2nd and 3rd round picks on the ****ing field and making plays faster.

Then I would have gladly traded the picks we used for Hunt to go get Foster.

I can at least understand the Hunt trade up. The one I DON'T get and never will was the Chesson trade up. THAT'S who we traded up to pick?

At that point, I'm pretty sure that was a matter of Dorsey saying, "We have too many 5th rounders. I don't want to be forced to keep all these guys on the roster. We have to burn some of these picks now."
