Cheezy ass lyrics.

But when the sound returns to anything pre-Black album, its all good.

I hear some Damage Inc. in this one....

Perhaps I've just moved on past this music, I loved Metallica back in the day, but I thought that was not very good at all.

Saw them live 5 times as a teenager myself. Black was the beginning of the end. This is no different. Just bland.

I think it's really good. On par with, if not better than, Death Magnetic, IMO. Reminds me of Seek & Destroy.

Decent riffs, terrible chorus. I am not a fan of the latter-day Metallica production style, although that is a bit of an improvement over the last couple albums.

This is a bit redeeming of a track I suppose. The chorus, we're so ****ed, shit out of luck. hard wired to self destruct...I like the way they did the last line, but the so ****ed shit out of luck...is pretty stupid.

But, it's a decent throwback. It'll never be Master of Puppets again, but I'll never be 15 years old again, so there's that...

Have Metallica lyrics ever really been literature quality?

I think it's pretty cool and connect with it but I can understand why others don't.

The mix and production, IMO, sound great. I'm not a huge fan of all the hyped 8k on the kick but the guitars, bass and vocals are all very clear (something that's been missing since the Black album for me). It's a huge step forward over anything they've released since the 90's in those terms.

As for the song, I dig it musically as it has a mixture of thrash yet the main riff is reminiscent of "Dirty Window" from St. Anger (which I still think is a cool album, despite the awful production. Had it sounded like this song does sonically, it may have found a wider and bigger audience).

The lyrics are typical masculine, adrenaline driven Hetfield lyrics and they fits the song. Not everything needs to be cerebral to work, IMO. Often times, simpler is best.

I'm looking forward to the rest of the album.
