Perfect example for today's younger players.

Damn good. My favorite thing about him was the way he comported himself on and off the court.

Surpassed the Admiral with his play and leadership of the Spurs - took the torch and ran with it. Made it hard not to cheer for him and the other great "old" veterans on that club like Parker, Bowen and Ginobli given how they would always bring it come playoff time and go against the conventional wisdom of the pundits who often tried to write them off.
Congrats on a fantastic career Mr. Duncan and thanks for being one of the few "throwbacks" with regards to team loyalty and playing the game you loved for all the right reasons. |

I grew up a Spurs fan since the Iceman days. Watching Duncan play basketball was like watching paint dry. In this case it is a good thing. He was never flashy but at the end of the game when he is sitting at 28 points, 14 rebounds and 5 blocked shots while shooting 90% from the free throw line- it always amazed me. He made it look easy, never trashed talked, just quietly clocked in and went to work. He led by example on and off the court. Duncan got more out of a look-to correct a teammates shortcomings, then all of Bryant's rants put together. He brought out the best in everyone around him.
Duncan is one of the most complete players I have ever seen. All he did was win. He did it by blending in with his team while showing little emotion on the court. Welcome to the HOF Mr. Duncan. I am sure nobody will remember your speech or that you were even there. He will give all the credit to his family, coaches and teammates-but they know he was a once in a generation talent. His unselfish play puts him up a notch from all others in his playing years. |
