Most Cursed Sports Town?

Now with KC and Cleveland winning championships, who is now the most cursed sports town?

I think it would be Buffalo. Not only the four superbowl losses in a row but also the 1999 Stanley Cup finals and the skate in the crease game. The other would be Minneapolis. Yes, the Twins won a couple of World Series in the early 90s but since then a lot of heartbreak in football. The Atlanta Falcons playoff game and this years missed chip shot field goal come to mind.

Comically, it's still Cleveland. That's a testament to how horrible that city has had it. The Indians are second to the Cubs in terms of cursed MLB franchises and the Browns are easily #1 in the NFL. Especially since the Cavs are a pretty distant third to these 2 teams in the hearts and minds of Cleveland.

From Wikipedia.

San Diego has the largest championship drought in the nation with at least two major-league sports franchises; dating back to 1963 (47 Years as of 2010), as well as being the largest United States city to have not won a Super Bowl, World Series, Stanley Cup, NBA Finals or any other Major League sports championship. Some fans believe that there is a curse on the major league teams in the city.

Definitely not Minneapolis. Any team that has won anything in the last 25 years is not even in the discussion.

Buffalo and San Diego are up there. I'd put Buffalo ahead of San Diego though because San Diego just doesn't give a shit it seems.

The Twins last title was 25 years ago this year... so close.

Minneapolis was the first one that came to mind for me. All the Vikings horrible playoff losses. The 98 NFC title game when Gary Anderson missed his first kick all year. Getting waxed in 2000 against the Giants. The Favre NFC title game, then last year, missing a 30 yard kick. Then the Twins won the division a bunch of times in the 00's but never did anything with it. The Timberwolves play in a league where half the teams make the playoffs and they still haven't made it in like a decade... although things are looking up for them. The Wild haven't done anything great either.

Atlanta's saved because the Braves dominated the 90's.

Buffalo would have to be up near the top, the 90s were horrible. Four Super Bowl losses and then the Music City Miracle. That's an all timer. Then the Sabres blew their finals. I think they've been to the conference finals a couple times since but never got over the top.

I think you have to have periods of really miserable weather to ever feel like your city has a curse, sports or otherwise. I'm sure San Diego die hard fans might feel differently, but there is so much fantastic about living in San Diego its really hard to get depressed (on a city wide scale) about anything. The average temp is 74 degrees! There are plenty of other options.

When you live in a city that experiences actual inclement weather that limits your time to spend outside, or just out and about, that's when sports becomes your escape, especially during football season. People gather and commiserate with one another, and if the local team does well, it lifts all spirits. When it doesn't, it layers a malaise that is palatable.

I just don't know how anyone could live in San Diego and let the fortunes of their sports teams come to the conclusion they are "cursed". If that's a curse, we should all be so fortunate to find one!

It's ****ing Minneapolis. no contest. It's the only one with all 4 major sports and lots of suck. The Vikings have been bigger choke-artists and heartbreakers then the Chiefs in the past 2 decades. The Twolves are perennial suck.

Drought Prone cities:

Several North American cities are believed to have championship droughts among their "Big Four" pro sports teams:

89 years - Ottawa since 1927 Stanley Cup (The CFL's Rough Riders won nine Grey Cups, last in 1976)
53 years - San Diego since 1963 AFL title (pre-Super Bowl), no World Series title, no NBA title (Clippers relocated to Los Angeles in 1984)
51 years - Buffalo since 1965 AFL title (pre-Super Bowl), no Stanley Cup title since joining NHL in 1970-71, no NBA title (Braves relocated to San Diego in 1978).
46 years - Vancouver no Stanley Cups since joining NHL in 1970 (The CFL's BC Lions have won six Grey Cups, last in 2011)
45 years - Milwaukee since 1971 NBA title
39 years - Portland since 1977 NBA title. (MLS's Portland Timbers won the 2015 MLS Cup)
37 years - Winnipeg no Stanley Cup title since joining NHL in 1979 (The CFL's Blue Bombers have won ten Grey Cups, last in 1990)
37 years - Salt Lake City no NBA titles since the Jazz relocated in 1979. (MLS's Real Salt Lake won the 2009 MLS Cup)
31 years - Sacramento waiting for first since 1985.
28 years - Charlotte waiting for first since 1988. (Super Bowl appearances in 2004 and 2016)
27 years - Calgary since 1989 Stanley Cup (The CFL's Stampeders have won four Grey Cups since then, last in 2014)
27 years - Orlando waiting for first since 1989.
26 years - Edmonton since 1990 Stanley Cup (The CFL's Eskimos have won four Grey Cups since then, last in 2015)
26 years - Cincinnati since 1990 World Series title (no Super Bowl titles).
25 years - Minneapolis–St. Paul since 1991 World Series title (1969 NFL title (non-Super Bowl), 1954 NBA title, however franchise relocated; no Stanley Cup titles). This is the longest current championship drought for any metro area with a team in each of the "Big Four" leagues.
25 years - San Jose No Stanley Cup title since joining NHL in 1991.
24 years - Washington, D.C. since 1992 Super Bowl. (1978 NBA title, 1924 World Series title, however franchise relocated, no Stanley Cups).

Why would anyone move to Buffalo?

Good point. And if you include Minnesota colleges teams, the suck increases 100x more in that state.
