None that I can think of. Ditto for tv series based on books. It's impossible to match the level of detail and internal monologue is almost always lost. Not that the movies can't still end up good in their own right.

I do generally prefer books to movies but there are plenty of exceptions.
Lonesome Dove is a slightly better movie (mini series) than the book. Warlock (1959) is better than the source novel by Oakley Hall. Sleepers (1996) was a better movie than book. The Prestige (2006) was based an a pretty weak novel. The novel "Jaws" also kinda sucked. Misery (1990), The Shining (1980), Stand By Me, and The Shawshank Redemption (1994) were much better than the original King stories. Red Dragon, In a Lonely Place, Marathon Man (1976), Blade Runner (minus the god damn unicorn) The Godfather and on and on and on. Last edited by Mennonite; 05-15-2016 at 08:54 AM.. |

Feel like books can sometimes make it hard to show action or the extraordinary. Jurassic Park is a good example of that.
And sometimes you leave the book with an incredible script and directing. Apocalypse now, the godfather, and fight Club... All better than the book. |

Apocalypse Now is not better than Heart of Darkness.
Last of the Mohicans is a better movie to modern audiences than the book is. |

Depends on the visual image you create when reading a book

Someone already mentioned it, but I've always loved the film version of Jurassic Park more than the book.
I'd even rather watch The Lost World than read it, although it's been over a decade since my last read-through. |

Really? They're not particularly close. Especially TLW. You owe yourself a re-read.

Fight Club, Godfather, Jaws, Shawshank
I really like Cormac McCarthy but I think the Coens did No Country even better |

The main one that comes to mind for me is Exorcist III. I loved the movie and the book (forgot the name) was just strange.
I saw Misery mentioned and I have to disagree. The movie, while really good, felt like the book on training wheels. With King, the best you can hope for is for the movie/tv show to be as close to as good as the book. I thought Shawshank, Green Mile and Stand by Me were about the same as the book. |
