Steelers cut Cortez Allen
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...-cortez-allen/
Relevant for a couple of reasons - A) with the loss of Boykin and now Allen, it seems almost a given that the Steelers will go CB ahead of us. The odds of Jackson or Apple being there have dwindled to near non-existent at this point. B) Allen might be a nice guy to kick the tires on if his knee checks out. He'd get a chance to get back at the team that cut him and he's a bigger, stronger DB who's familiar with press-man schemes dating back to his college days. He's not a guy I'd sign as an obvious #2 but he'd be a real nice complement and competition for Gaines. At any given point I'd think one of those guys would be healthy and effective enough to give us adequate play alongside Peters. |

Damn. I think you're right, we won't have a viable corner option at 28. Looks like it's a trenches pick, unless the first round goes completely haywire and on its ear.

And I'd rather take a mother****ing guard than draft a DL in the first. If Cody Whitehair is available there, I'd damn sure take him over guys like Shilique Calhoun and other DL being mentioned who are about as likely to succeed as any of the dozen DL that are going to be taken in the 2nd and even 3rd rounds. I just see no way there is any sort of value play sitting there for us at the back of the 1st. Which gets back to where I was a week or so ago - the loss of the 3rd makes me MORE inclined to be aggressive in this draft and rather than trade down to get a 3rd back, I'd trade up using next year's picks as ammo to ensure that if nothing else, we get the best bang for our buck from the picks we do have. I'm not sure we can get much with our 2017 3rd but I wonder how far that 2017 second can move us? High enough to get Jackson? Possibly, and if so I think it's a move I'd make.

HE DOESN'T CATCH THE BALL, YA DAMN DOMER!
If Bowe's hands drove us all to drinking, Fuller would have us taking up heroin by week 6.

This is why I suggested yesterday that we really are a possibility to trade up.
So many comp picks next year. Ammunition is there to jump ahead of PIT. |

I would rather us trade back since Goodell went in dry and stole our third rounder this year, but I could handle moving for Jackson3 or whoever we have targeted, but we'll have to get in front of Pitt to do it. Would a second ro third from next year be the price to pay to move up 4 spots?

Would not be shocked if Artie Burns is the pick at 28 if the brass is concerned about the secondary.
I wouldn't mind Butler or Fuller/Doctson at 28 either... I am not sold on Alexander. |

I doubt we trade up considering how late we pick. The only corner I trade up for is William Jackson III, and depending if he falls, Vernon Hargreaves. Losing that 3rd rounder likely limits the draft movement this year. I think the Chiefs go all in next year with regards to the draft given the compensatory picks as you cite.
