Why is this a desperation signing? It will probably cost nothing, he's better than what we have, and he knows the offense. I see no problem with the move. Junior Hemmingway is complete garbage. The Chiefs need a reliable hands receiver.

Wow. Post #1 and we've already got the bullshit "hands receiver" cliche going. That didn't take long.

Bandaid JAG for the trash heap. I wonder if this is any indication of Avery's health.

I would think Reid knows he needs a deep threat and that Avant doesn't help there.

We need a deep threat too. Not so that we keep attacking vertical, but because we need somebody to at least keep the defense honest. Avery at #2 with Avant playing McCluster/Hemming way role is a good way to bring our offense back to life. It's not going to be all world, but it'll be better than what we've seen the past few weeks.

100% this. I don't know much about Avant. But if he can get a bit of separation in the 5 to 15 yard range and catch the ball... could be a big pick up for the Chiefs. We need another guy on offense that is a viable option. Doesn't need to be a big name WR, just someone solid.

Is Avant that guy? I don't know... I just know that we don't have it on the team now, and Avant is at least a chance at being that.

The problem with a deep threat is... Who's going to throw them the ball?

It doesn't matter. It gives you a few potential big plays a game and it at least keeps the defense somewhat honest. We're never going to be a great deep threat game, but just respectable enough is better than being terrible at it.

Doesn't matter the receiver. The Chiefs will still be terrible at it.

Look at every "deep pass" this season.

Smith... I know it's fun to say he can't do it, but he can and will if he has time to throw it and the receiver gets a step.

With this line... it just isn't going to happen. I was so freakin' jealous of the Raiders O line yesterday. Carr had all day long to sit back there and throw the ball.
