Now I'm okay with having huge catch-all threads to keep from the front page of the board from getting too cluttered.

But it seems to me that it's a recurring issue with the server melting when threads get to 1,000 replies or whatever the threshold is that's prompted the admin staff to lock the threads when they get too large.

So my question is would it be easier on the server if megathreads were still capped at X amount of posts as they're currently, but with the added effort to limit replies by making megathreads like the Royals ~~Suppository~~ Repository Thread locked after a calendar month of use rather than just waiting for the thread to hit the database-crashing mark as is the usual? Seems to me that that would lessen the strain on the server and would make for a happier CP experience for everyone.

That is, of course, until someone is told to chug antifreeze or something.
