Calling on SIMPLY RED for some fashion tips!
I have an evening wedding reception to go to (no wedding, they were married in Ireland a few weeks back) and am considering flipping the normal routine and going with a double breasted suit coat (notch lapel) and dark slacks or even dark dress jeans and no tie.

The style is approximate to this minus the third pocket.

Some details: The party takes place at a private venue and most of the guests are not exactly the formal type. I honestly will be surprised if half of them own suits or jackets at all. The guy who just got married owns a bar and a large portion of the guests are patrons.

The invite did specify COCKTAIL ATTIRE which to me normally means suit or at minimum dark blazer, tie and pocket square. In which case I could easily just wear the whole suit but I'm fairly certain that will make me somewhat overdressed.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Oh and the Royals are playing right before the party so I am likely going with a powder blue dress shirt.

Stay with a normal blazer or jacket. If no one else is formal you can take the jacket and tie off once the festivities begin

I may go that route but I'd also like to see if my idea on this is generally acceptable to the fashion conscious male (Simply Red).

Oh, and here is a pic of the proposed color/texture combination.

Not sure on the belt but it matches the shoes perfectly.

Don't wear a suit jacket with jeans. Blazer or sport coat only.

I would go sport coat/blazer, non-jean pants, and a knit/linen tie. Classy enough for cocktails, but will also fit in with a less dressy crowd.

Or just commit to the suit. But don't go suit coat with jeans. The textures just don't work together.
