Mock (10/8)

Assumptions:

1. The Chiefs finish 8-8 and end up picking #15. All staff is retained.

2. The team fails to extend OLB Justin Houston and has to franchise tag him. They do, however, extend S Eric Berry at some point over the next 12 months for about $8-9m a year.

3. The Chiefs re-sign C Rodney Hudson to a 4 year, $20m deal ($6m guaranteed), DE Allen Bailey to a 4 year, $12m deal ($4m guaranteed), and DE Kevin Vickerson to a 2 year, $6m deal.

4. The Chiefs cut WR Dwayne Bowe, TE Anthony Fasano, ILB Derrick Johnson, and DE Mike DeVito.

5. The Chiefs tender OLB Josh Martin.

6. The Chiefs let walk OT Ryan Harris, OG Jeff Linkenbach, and OG Mike McGlynn.

7. The Chiefs re-sign RB Joe McKnight, FB Anthony Sherman, WR Junior Hemingway, ILB Josh Mauga, CB Chris Owens, and LS Thomas Gafford to minimal deals.

8. They receive four compensatory picks: a 3rd, a 4th, a 5th, and a 6th.

On with the show:

1.15. WR Dorial Green-Beckham, Oklahoma

Dorsey swings for the fences on an all-world talent with a ten cent head.

2.45. OT Ty Sambrailo, Colorado State

A brilliant runblocker who will need a year of grooming in pass protection.

3.75. CB Lorenzo Doss, Tulane

Extremely impressive ballskills, lots of length, but like Gaines, he is a king-sized project.

3.96. TE Tyler Kroft, Rutgers

Kroft seems like an odd pick because he's from Rutgers, but (a.) he is a pure receiving TE threat who has received NFL caliber coaching, and (b.) Gaines was from Rutgers.

4.109. WR Antwan Goodley, Baylor

One of my favorite prospects of the draft.

4.130. SS Jaquiski Tartt, Samford

Shamelessly physical safety with tons of length. With Berry, Abdullah, Commings, and Parker on the roster, Tartt has starter-caliber upside, and plenty of time to groom.

5.144. NT Brandon Ivory, Alabama

Dorsey recently said that he needs explosion in his linemen. Ivory is a strong run defender who's a bear to move off the point of attack.

5.168. ILB Bryce Hager, Baylor

Field general who makes plays all over Baylor's defense.

6.183. OT/G Christian Lombard, Notre Dame

Lombard seems more natural at guard to me, another great explosion guy with accomplished technique in both pass protection and runblocking.

6.202. OLB Nate Orchard, Utah

Scary athlete, phenomenal size and speed combination. Bigtime project for the position, but he has only played the position for a couple years.

7.220. WR Kenny Bell, Alabama

Chiefs take a flyer on a kid to see if he wants to suit up. Bell has been struggling to return to the field after suffering a broken leg, both physicall and emotionally.

Beckham is going to stay at OU for the 2015 season from everything that I've read.

Orchard is going to go higher than the 6th, too much talent and production there. Should see what he did against Andrus Peat when they played Stanford last year. Already has 9 sacks this year with a monster game vs UCLA.

To echo OldSchool, Nate Fakahafua leads the NCAA's in sacks right now and absolutely destroyed UCLA's offensive line with 4 of them last week. He's pretty effective in dropping back into zone coverage as well.

Originally signed with the Utes as a wide receiver, but exploded size wise as an incoming freshman and the tight end position was stacked, so he made the move to DE/LB hybrid position that the Utes run.

Kept the WR agility and understanding and translated it to the defensive side of the ball. Finally came into his own last season and has really taken it up to another level this season.

Utah defensive players are well coached and prepared for the next level. He'll go much higher than the sixth round and he'll make a pretty nice 34 OLB for somebody at the next level.
