Suckage and Clark Hunt's role
It's popular to blast Clark around here today, but I thought it might be interesting to dissect this.

Correct me if I am wrong, but since Clark took over we have seen him:

-Fire Carl
-Hire what was pretty much the undisputed hot commodity GM on the market.
-Backed off and let the guy he hired run the team.
-Erred in keeping that GM around for a year or two too long.
-Hired a well regarded veteran head coach who was probably the top coach on the market at the time.
-Hired someone else who was pretty much the leading candidate for GM jobs that offseason.
-Backed off and let those guys run the team.


It's now week 1 of year 2 for those guys.

I know it's popular to bash Clark, but I don't see idiotic ownership here. Both Pioli and Dorsey would have had their pick of GM jobs and Andy Reid would have had his pick of head coaching jobs. Clark fired each of the last two GMs for underperforming, although Pioli should have been fired the year before.

Of course, Dorsey's draft results are concerning. But how can we blast Clark Hunt for the above list of major decisions he's made? I don't see a horrendous issue there. He was doing what most any other owner would have done if they had been hiring those off seasons. He did what many or most of us around here wanted or were OK with on those decisions.

What specifically should Clark have done instead of what he did at those decision points?

Clark's biggest failure is not creating the sense of urgency needed to compete every year for a Super Bowl.

I am not suggesting that Clark meddle in the football operations to the extent that Jerry Jones or Daniel Snyder do, but before Dorsey implemented his strategy of do nothing in free agency/draft this offseason, Clark should have pressed him on how this strategy achieves Clark's objective for "building on last season".

From the outside view it looks like the franchise this offseason lacked the urgency they had last offseason.

I don't think that would happen under a Bob Kraft, or Paul Allen owned team.

Who cares? That's Clark's problem to solve not us. If he hires poorly that's his fault alone.

That said lot of season left. (I know...)

It's painful to realize that John Schneider was on the market the exact same time that Pioli was.

Obviously Pioli at the time was the bigger get, but damn. Just a little more homework and we could have solved this mess of a team.
