Direct TV Dish alignment...

Dish is slightly out of line. Enough that Sat 2 shows an error.

Any tricks to aligning it myself or do I need to have a tech come out?

go in to the settings and installer menu you can access the signal strength meter that the installers use

adjust accordingly

If you are patient-

If it is a left-right alignment
Turn on the signal meter in the menu. Turn up the tv loud
Listen to it and align.

Or use two phones to do the same thing.


If it is off alignment off the horizon, you should be able to find the angle online or in the menu. (it used to show up, not sure about the new versions)

Yes, I am being serious in this manner. Heard of a few do it, I have too.


If that does not work, call the tech. You are paying for that when you rent your equipment.

With my wife it would be easier to take the 55" TV off the wall and up to the roof by the dish!

all she has to do is look at the meter on t.v. and say it's getting higher ... lower ... higher ... lower

until you get it to 90+

In addition to what others have said, you can get a better alignment by "dithering" rather than just trying to max it out. Basically, get in the ballpark, then intentionally throw it out of alignment a bit (maybe to the 70's somewhere). Then, count the number of turns it takes to go PAST a good alignment (90's) and back to the number you were on. Cut that in half, and go back that number of turns.

Basically, the signal flattens out a bit toward the peak, and you'll be better able to weather storms if you've got it right in the middle rather than close to one of the sides of the curve.

Your elevation should already be locked and set. If you have a compass you can set the azimuth.

If you have to do it yourself.
