RunKC Mock (3/23)

1. Kyle Van Noy LB BYU-This guy just might be my favorite player in this entire draft. This guy can rush the passer extremely well, cover in space (including TE's), use sideline-to-sideline speed to chase down WR's/RB's, use closing speed to rush the passer. Oh and he's blocked punts too.
This guy reminds me of a mix between DJ and Tamba. He's got excellent game speed like DJ and can cover in space, but he's also a relentless pass rusher with moves to get past OT's.
This guy can rotate with Tamba/Houston, but he can also come on the field on 3rd down purely as a coverage LB and defend TE's, RB's in the flat and the crossing routes. This can even help Berry play more in the back at times instead of being stuck in the box all the time.
I envision this guy being used in so many ways next year. I see Seattle's D and think that their fast LB's/pass rushers played a huge part in their success, and Van Noy is that same kind of player.
3. EJ Gaines CB MU-Tough confident player who reminds me a lot of the guy who he will be drafted to replace: Brandon Flowers.
4. Mike Davis WR Texas-This guy isn't getting much attention right now, probably because he only did the bench press in Indy, but I love his game and think that bad QB play held him back. He can easily be the #4 guy next year and work into the offense. He can take over for Avery in due time.
5. Billy Turner OT North Dakota State-We've talked to this guy multiple times, and for good reason. We need a swing tackle in case Fisher/Stephenson get hurt. He just looks like an Andy Reid type of tackle.
6. Marqueston Huff FS Wyoming-We need insurance in case Sanders is still hurt, or if Berry/Abdullah get hurt. Great opportunity for him to learn slowly as the #4 Safety.
6. Jay Bromley DE Syracuse-This guy is a 5 tech with potential that hasn't been seen yet IMO. He's a big guy at 6'3" 306 lbs. He was a pure run stuffer until last year when he got double-digit sacks. He's powerful and holds the line very well using his longer arms and strong hands, but he's also a lot quicker than one would think for a guy his size.
This guy would be a perfect developmental prospect to rotate. He's this years Catapano.

It's... interesting.

Just to assume all these guys are available where you have them...

- Really like Van Noy.. I agree that he is very versatile.. not sure about him in the 3-4.. He can blitz the edge with speed, but I think if an OT gets hands on him, he's done.. otherwise, I like what he could bring.

- Great pick and value with Gaines.
- I like Mike Davis enough, and agree he hasn't been getting the love he deserves. 4th rd is about right.

- about the right value for Turner, and yeah, OL is needed.

- would love to see KC draft Bromley and Huff is great there too.

This is an outstanding draft. You did an excellent job selling Van Noy, who I agree is definitely a worthy dark horse at 23. I love all your picks, with one exception.

I've picked Gaines in the 3rd before, and I like the pick fine... I just think there will be better options at CB there. But who knows.

Great work.

Look at his tape. It's just crazy what he can do.

Use him at ILB like DJ and have him blitz up the middle utilizing that closing speed like this

More ILB work from him with a delayed blitz. MOAR closing speed.

As a pure pass rusher.

Eyeing the QB and playing the pass

And finally, more of that elite hustle and closing speed. Goddamn

I am sold. I love this kid.

I'm pretty close to sold, too.

I've been souring on Dee Ford. I think Van Noy is first round material.

We might have to fire up the Splooge Machine.

I really like Van Noy and would be happy with a dark horse pick like him or Jimmie Ward. As you mentioned his closing speed is ridiculous and he's very versatile. Like Dion Jordan last year he would provide us with a future replacement to Hali, but can still get on the field in other ways for the mean time.
