FYI...US Olympic track and field finals tonight on NBC

6pm CT. Didn't see a recent Olympics thread.

I'm counting on the Olympics to get me thru until football.

Disclaimer Edit.....this is just part of the track and field finals. NBC showed some of them last night.

The only thing worth watching during the summer olympics are the women's gymnastics and not for the pervy reasons you all are thinking either.

Using my internet resources, I determined that they're in London and they start on July 27th. Here's a schedule of events: http://www.london2012.com/schedule-and-results/

I'm very curious about trampoline. I had no idea that trampoline was an Olympic sport.

And BMX and mountain biking are both Olympic sports? No wonder the rest of the world hates us. We're constantly stuffing the Olympics with weird little sports that give gold medals to Americans who we've never heard of.

Unrelated question. Do we have a team handball team? Does anyone know the rules of team handball? If so, do you want to get a team together?

I like a lot of track and field events but tend to focus most on the 100m and 200m. Don't have cable though so could you give me a recap, broseph?

Gatlin, Gay and Ryan Bailey going to London. Dix took last in the final heat with a lame hammy.

Thanks, guys.

Man, I feel like Tyson Gay and Justin Gatlin have been our two best runners for an eternity now. Walter Dix is relatively new but we need some fresh meat out there to bring home the gold.

One will be able to watch everything live over the net this year, by-passing NBC's prime coverage of human interest stories.

BTW, the swimming trials begin tomorrow and the heat finals will be shown from 7-8 Mon. - Fri. on your NBC station (ch. 41 in KC).

So this isn't really the Olympics, just qualifiers for the American team?

Ryan Lochte among three Gators who punch ticket to Olympics

Ryan Lochte, Conor Dwyer, Elizabeth Beisel all make U.S. Olympic team at trials

OMAHA, Neb. – The Florida faithful would argue the popular refrain chanted during games is always true – it's great to be a Florida Gator.

But that had special meaning on Monday at the U.S. Swim Trials at the CenturyLink Center. Half of the athletes who qualified for the U.S. team were current or former Gators.

Led by Ryan Lochte's win in the 400 IM, Florida accounted for three of the six swimmers who made the team. Elizabeth Beisel (400 IM) and Conor Dwyer (400 free) both made the team, as did Peter Vanderkaay (400 free).

Vanderkaay, a three-time Olympian, came to Florida to train two years ago after spending the previous eight years at his alma mater, Michigan.

"I think he's one of the world's best coaches," said Lochte of UF coach Gregg Troy. "We have one of the best programs, and it definitely showed tonight."

Lochte started the meet off by coming from behind to beat Phelps. The two were in a battle with Tyler Clary, who finished third, until Lochte took over after 250 meters. He finished in 4:07.06, the fastest time in the world this year, while Phelps made the team by finishing second in 4:07.89.

The two could face off in several events this week but assured the competition would continue in London.

"Obviously pretty good competition. He just kicked our ass," said Bob Bowman, Phelps' coach. "I don't think competition's an issue."

In the next final, Dwyer was fifth after the first 150 meters and swimming in third going into the final turn before he beat Michael Kleuh to the wall. He finished in 3:47.83 to take second behind Vanderkaay, who won the event in 3:47.67.

The two wins distracted Beisel, but not enough that the Florida junior didn't advance to her second Olympics. Beisel made the U.S. team as a 15-year-old — and the youngest member on the team that went to Beijing — in this event, but she came in with greater expectations after winning the event at the World Championships last year.

She won easily, finishing in 4:31.74.

"I was a mess before the race," said Beisel. "I was so nervous and it's probably because I put so much pressure on myself. … It's so relieving to have this over and have a trip to London already."

Beisel joined the rest of the Florida swimmers in crediting Troy for their success. Despite four of his athletes making the team, Troy deflected all credit.

"It's all them. We've got a good group," said Troy, who is the coach of the U.S. men's team for the Olympics. "The thing I'm happiest about is the rest of the team was behind them the whole time. It's a real close group. They're just good to work with. I've got a great staff."
