Civil Rights Movies

Can you recommend highly reviewed and generally excellent civil rights movies?

I'm watching Selma right now. Milk was also great, about gay rights.

Suffragette was pretty good. 12 Years A Slave was probably the best movie of the best decade.

I'm open to any recommendations you have. Trailers welcome.

More of a workers rights issue, but Reds is really good.

We could post the whole film here. Copyright protocol was blown on that one.

Malcolm X was amazing. The Help was pretty solid, too.

Birth of a Nation just came out -- haven't seen it yet.

Hoffa, Jimmi Hoffa played by Jack Nicholson (1992)

You can call it gangster movie I guess but Jimmi Hoffa did a lot for civil rights for the working man.

What Happened, Miss Simone? This documentary about Nina Simone was fascinating. One of those stories that if you know the three sentence blurb of her life, it sounds moderately interesting, but to see it in detail in a documentary raises many good questions and is quite profound. She struggled to balance her life as many genius artists do, and struggled mentally as many do, but other artists have been excused for their poor behavior. Is it her radical views that prevent many people from affording her that same open mindedness? Or did her exile keep her out of the public sphere long enough to erase some of her relevance, thus making harsh judgement of her easier? I suspect it is equal parts of both, but I'd be interested in what others thought if you have seen it.

It is entirely about her involvement in the civil rights movement.
