Not as dumb as you'd think.
He'll almost certainly be among the top 3 players in BPA if/when he makes it to us. History suggests we've got one more year of Jamaal being Jamaal. |

I dont see it happening for a number of reasons:
1. positional value. RBs are not valued the same anymore as in the past 2. Dorsey values size x speed. Knile Davis has 4.37 speed at nearly 230lbs. DAT has serious speed. Cyrus Gray has 4.47 speed. Heck, even our former PS runner Chacandarick west ran a 4.47 against a 20-25mph wind, and a 4.27 with the wind. . Melvin Gordon doesnt have that type of speed. 3. Jamaal Charles and Gordon have similar, patient running styles, but their body types are not similar. Gordon isnt as compact as Jamaal. He also tends to run more upright. Jamaal has the speed to squeeze through the smallest of creases in the line, and the burst to not get caught from behind very frequently. I dont see the same for Gordon. |

Collums thinks that regardless of West’s 40-yard dash times, it’s his game speed that will surprise people the most. “When he opens up,” Collums said, “he’s going to run by people. People don’t really understand how fast he is until they see him breaking one down the sideline. We’d get him matched up with a mike linebacker, throw him the ball and within two steps he’d have accelerated by the guy.” It’s those traits that piqued the Chiefs’ interest, as West said he got a personal phone call from Chiefs running backs coach Eric Bienemy. “He told me he liked my speed and catching,” West said. “He also said what really caught his eye was my footwork and my pass blocking.” |

I hate the idea of RB in the first, especially a Wisconsin RB. No, it's not superstition. I've realized that playing behind that offensive line makes a lot of runners look pretty damn good.
With our OL in Kansas City, which is far more predisposed to pass blocking than run blocking, I think Melvin Gordon would struggle to have very much success. At the very least, I don't think anybody would ever watch him play and go, "Sweet! We basically got to restart Jamaal Charles' career!" |

You would have to at least give it some thought if he is there at 18, if he gets by SD.....

This draft is so damn deep at running back, seriously, that I wouldn't even consider it. I like Melvin Gordon, don't get me wrong, but that is a position furthest from any sort of immediate need and you can get good backs throughout this draft.
